forbidden, small town, sports romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry.

A coach. A student. The rules were concrete. We broke them anyway.

The night I met Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lie. He was a Treasure State football coach. I was the star of the volleyball team. Coaches and students were forbidden. My future was on the line, so I told myself it was only one night.

That was the first lie. They got easier to tell after that. The lines blurred. The boundaries shifted. Our relationship became a game of its own.

A chaste smile. A knowing glance. A veiled touch or a hushed kiss. We hid in plain sight. We were invincible. Or so we thought. Neither of us saw the blitz coming until it was too late.

Game over. The night I left Toren Greely was the night I learned how to lose.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Toren and Jennsyn are the main characters of this story. Fans of this series may remember Toren as Ford’s best friend and assistant coach. Torren grew up and attended Treasure State, his dream was always to come back and help coach the team he played for. It’s hard not to fall for him quickly, he’s noble and kind. Jennsyn threatens that nobility, she’s a transfer student to Treasure State, but she and Toren hook up in the summer and never share the key details that would have had them clue in to the forbidden nature of their relationship. Jennsyn will be relatable to any reader out there who struggles with balancing parental expectations with doing what actually makes you happy. Jennsyn’s past reveals itself throughout the story (I think some of the reveals could have happened earlier, I don’t like how long she kept pieces of her past from Toren), but nonetheless, my heart broke for her and I loved her character journey.
  • Setting: As with all of Devney’s stories it is set in Montana. Treasure State is in a little college town called Mission, and it has that very US college town feel. Toren and Jennsyn are neighbours so much of the book is the longing glances and the sneaking out late at night and early in the morning. I think Devney writes college very well and am very excited for more books in this series.
  • Pacing: The timeline of this story was super interesting as it is told concurrently with the previous standalone, Coach (Millie and Ford’s story), which I really liked. I find most often romance series tell one story after another in chronological order, so it was a nice change. It also gave a nice insight into Toren’s thoughts on Millie and Ford’s relationship. I flew through this book, I literally read it on a plane and half my flight just went by in a blink cause I was so entranced by it. I was a bit underwhelmed by the ending, it felt like it was like an abrupt end and here’s an epilogue. I would have liked a bit more exploration of their relationship once more people knew about it.
  • Romance: Ooooh Devney crafted a delicious slow burn here, the payoff is so worth it. The story naturally opens up with them meeting the night Toren hosts a party and Jennsyn is compelled to check out what her new neighbour is up to. You don’t get the story of that first night right away, rather you get it in flashbacks and I loved this. After that night they do attempt to steer clear of each other, but their undeniable chemistry breeds some emotional and romantic moments. That build-up also meant that when they could no longer keep their hands to themselves the characters and the readers alike were giddy.

Blitz receives 4.5/5 stars.

Thank you to Devney Perry and her team for the advance reader copy of Sable Peak, the final book in The Edens series.

It is bittersweet to see The Edens come to an end. I have been such a fan of Devney’s for a long time, and this series just raised the bar. Indigo Ridge remains not just one of my favourite Devney Perry books but one of my favourite romance novels I have ever read. This was a perfect send-off to the world and the family that we love along with a beautiful story for characters I have been excited to see depicted for a while.

I am a Devney Perry review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

Vera Gallagher is chasing constant. For four years, her life was anything but normal. And the years before that she refuses to even remember. Dwelling on the past only hurts. Life is fragile, a lesson her mother taught her well. She’s determined not to waste a moment of her newfound freedom.

Maybe some would consider her crush on Mateo Eden wasted time. Maybe some would call her a fool for loving a man who hasn’t once dropped a crumb of interest her way. Still, to Vera, it’s Mateo or nothing.

He’s handsome. Charming. Witty. And he loves his family the way Vera loves—with her whole heart.

Maybe he’ll never notice her. Maybe she’s too damaged, too broken, to find that normal life she craves. Maybe her secrets will always keep them apart. But Vera will love him anyway. Whether Mateo realizes it or not.

An unrequited love, small town romance.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Matteo and Vera are the main characters of Sable Peak. From the minute I finished Crimson River I wanted Vera’s story, even more than I wanted Matteo’s. Devney is so good at building these heroines who have gone through tremendous loss, trauma, and adversity and they respond in ways that feel so human. Of course, Vera has moments of what feels like immaturity or she will close herself off, she’s been closed off from the wider world for so long. I loved her personal journey in this story. Matteo is hard not to love, this final Eden sibling has been someone I have been excited to read about since the early books. He’s a single dad and it was so heartwarming to see him grow from the hotheaded side character Matteo, into the father figure leading man. This would not be the last instalment without lots of character cameos, I am so happy that Deveny did so many family dinners and that we got insights not just into our favourite characters, but all their new little kids. Special shout-out to Anne and Harrison, the original Eden love story who are some of the best parents I’ve ever seen in romance, if you have not read the bonus epilogue it is a must!
  • Setting: Quincy, Montana how I will miss you! This town with all of its different Edens in it, and its iconic settings from the Edens’ ranch to the Eloise Inn to Eden Coffee. This book similar to the last one also showcased the majesty of Montana’s landscape, and the book titles have all been odes to that as well what a wonderful touch. All of Devney’s books for the most part are set in Montana, but these feel like the biggest love letter to her homestate.
  • Pacing: This book had some very interesting pacing as it tells a two-year story. I get why Devney decided to put all this time into Vera’s unrequited crush and Matteo’s time as a single dad. I also get that if she wrote more of the early parts of this book then it would have gotten even longer, maybe even way too long. It would have been interesting to read that stuff, but it was not make or break for me. I love the story we did get but be warned if you are not a fan of huge gaps and flash-forwarding in time.
  • Romance: This romance had a really interesting structure, as for a good chunk of the book it is Vera who is holding this crush on Matteo. Her confronting him about it was a scene that had me rooting for her! Once they began to spend more time together we saw her grow to love baby Alaina which is always the best part of a single parent story. This book is very slow burn vibes, as glances and winks turn into touches and countless hours spent together. I loved this build-up and it all felt paced so perfectly. Plus of course, the steamy scenes are hot, Devney has always done a wonderful job writing these. What a lovely send-off to all the Edens couples!

Sable Peak receives five out of five stars.

But when his oldest friend calls, begging for a favor, Wilder begrudgingly agrees. For the next two months, he’ll give up his guest room to his friend’s little sister.

Two months. He just has to survive two months. Except Iris is as nosy as she is beautiful. And his secrets prove hard to hide when she’s living under his roof.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Wilder and Iris are the main characters of the latest Calamity Falls story. Wilder is a high school teacher and widow, definitely a character who is in need of some shaking up in his life. Enter Iris, she’s the younger sister of his best friend, who is ten years his junior. Iris is an influencer dealing with a family who is not as supportive of her less conventional career. I loved her bubbly personality, which matched perfectly against Wilder who is a bit more of a grump.
  • Setting: I love Deveny’s small-town Montana settings, including Calamity. This instalment is set very much at the local school, and I loved all the dynamics with students that this plot line and setting brought.
  • Pacing: I read this book at top speed in about a day or so. Which has been the standard time for the entire Calamity series. They are truly a perfect binge-read!
  • Romance: I loved this couple, as it was just simply so easy too. Deveny delivers some excellent sex scenes, without too much of a slow burn. I adore the falling for my friend’s little sister trope and how Devney wrote her characters navigating that, from denial to acceptance of the gravity of their feelings. Along with the consequences of telling everyone in the story.

The Brood receives five out of five stars.

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Devney Perry comes a new story in her Maysen Jar series…

Dear Diary,

My dad needs a girlfriend, and I’ve already picked her out.

Miss Adler would be perfect for him, right? She’s super pretty. She has the best smile and she gives the best hugs. And she’s, like, the most amazing teacher in the world.

Dad is my hero, but I can tell he’s lonely. He tries to hide it from me, but sometimes at night, when he thinks I’m asleep, I’ll sneak downstairs and find him sitting on the couch, staring at nothing. He’s never had a girlfriend, not since the divorce. Mom messed him up. She’s good at that.

Wish me luck.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Our leads are Josh and Della, a single dad and his daughter’s teacher. Josh is Katy’s dad and he was pretty damn great. He’s hardworking and determined. He is such a strong fighter for his daughter, in the face of a messy ex. Josh is very deserving to have his second chance at love, and Della was perfect for him. She teaches middle school and is loving, caring, and kind. She had harboured feelings for her colleague/roommate, but he’s only been showing some interest more recently. It is Della who loves frequenting the Maysen Jar.
  • Setting: The story is set in Deveny’s version of Bozeman, Montana. The Dandelion Diary is the return to the world of the Maysen Jar and I loved getting to check in on many of my favourite characters especially, Poppy.
  • Pacing: For being on the shorter side this was paced extremely well. The buildup of the relationship happened at the right story beats and was given ample breathing room. The ending was a bit rushed but that was necessary so we had more pages for character development and the characters evolving into more than friends.
  • Romance: I am such a sucker for characters so deserving of great love. Also in a single dad romance when the heroine falls hard for the kid, it is just so perfect! There was only a bit of steam, but with the constraints that makes sense. This had the heart of both Maysen Jar and the Coppersmith Farmhouse (loved the Prescott reference.)

The Dandelion Diary receives five out of five stars.

Thank you to Devney Perry and her team for the advance reader copy of Crimson River, the fifth story in The Edens series.

I have been greatly anticipating this book for a while, as once Devney began to tease this story the suspense sub-plot reminded me of my favourite instalment in the series, Indigo Ridge. Fans of that book and many of the mystery-based Clifton Forge novels will adore Lyla Eden’s instalment.

I am a Deveny Perry review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

Lyla Eden has spent the last few years watching her siblings fall in love. Meanwhile, she’s married to her job. It’s on her hundredth consecutive workday that her sister stages an intervention, kicking Lyla out of her own coffee shop. With nothing else to do, Lyla sets out on her favorite hiking trail.

It’s there that she spots a man washing blood from his hands in a stream. One moment she’s staring at the jagged scar on his face. The next, his hand is around her throat. But by some miracle, he lets her go.

Shaken to her core, Lyla reports the incident to the local police. Two days later, Vance Sutter arrives in town, armed with endless questions and a tarnished badge.

Vance may be ruggedly handsome but he’s as mysterious as the man he’s hunting. And he’ll be gone from Quincy in a blink. Yet Lyla’s crush is impossible to stop.

No matter how hard Vance tries to ignore it, there’s no denying the chemistry between them. And avoiding Lyla is not an option. After years of chasing dead ends, she’s his only lead to closing the case that haunts his career. So together, they’ll retrace her steps.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: The next Eden protagonist is Lyla Eden! She is one of the few single Edens left, she is too busy being married to her job. She is not even looking for anyone, spending day in and day out in the cafe. Her family pushes her to take the day off and once she is attacked after hiking in the woods a chain of events is set off. Most importantly for Lyla, Vance Sutter arrives in Quincy. Vance’s appearance is a bit of a rugged mountain man. Once we get to know him readers will begin to understand this charming man is incredibly secretive. It takes some time for him to warm up, thanks to the efforts of not just Lyla but each Eden works to chip away the icy shields around his heart. You will understand why he is guarded and feel so relieved once he begins to trust his heart in Lyla’s hands.
  • Setting: The story is set in the charming Quincy, Montana. The Edens basically run every business in this town it feels like, we got to really enjoy the wider cast of characters in this story. In the last installment, Jasper Vale saw Eloise being much more insular. Now we get to see how all the other Edens are doing, especially lots of page time for my fave Winslow Eden.
  • Pacing: Pacing is so important in a romance with a significant suspense subplot. The story beats were well executed. I made some guesses, some panned out while others did not. Overall I found the mystery Devney weaved very compelling, I had to devour the story in a day because I needed to know more as secrets were revealed.
  • Romance: Lyla and Vance were both so in need of a person to trust and love. They had some hot chemistry. So, just like many previous Eden stories, you will enjoy them sneaking around for a while hiding the depth of their feelings even from themselves. There is a moment where the relationship shifts and I adored that scene. We are beginning to get some huge payoffs for all the Edens I love and adore. Lyla and Vance brought me to tears and got my heart racing, not just with their intensity but with the heart-pounding suspense that will make readers want to read more and more.

single dad, sports romance from Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author, Devney Perry.

Football star. Single dad. And once, a long time ago, mine.

I’ve spent the better part of a decade forgetting Ford Ellis. If he had just stayed away from Montana, I might have erased the memory of his striking blue eyes and rugged smile forever. Avoiding him was easy when the only place I saw his face was on ESPN—and a remote control could fix that problem.

Except my boss just hired Ford as the new head coach for the Treasure State Wildcats. Not only will I be stuck watching him on the sidelines this season, but avoiding him will be impossible now that we’re working together.

Maybe I haven’t forgotten Ford. Maybe I still dream about what we might have been. Maybe he hasn’t forgotten me either.

Except those maybes won’t change the fact that we were never meant to be. Maybe he was mine once. But as of today, the only thing I’ll be calling Ford Ellis is Coach.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Our leads are Millie and Ford. I loved them both, they are definitely prime examples of Devney protagonists at their best. Ford is sweet, charming, and a wonderful Dad. Readers will fawn over how he prioritizes his daughter Joey. I loved his determination in everything from fatherhood, work, sport, and re-approaching Millie. I also liked having a sports romance with the heroine connected to the sports world, as authors rarely draw these connections. Millie is the school’s athletic director, and what I did enjoy stemming from that was a subplot of her fighting for agency in a male-dominated field. The other character I liked was Joey, I wished we could have seen more of her. The nature of this book is that key scenes take place at the workplace which just means less kiddo time.
  • Setting: This story is set at a university in Montana, and well of course it is because Devney is the queen of Montana stories. Devney has said this will become a series of coach stories but all she has done is made me crave a series of college romances from her. I loved the insights you can glean from all the side characters on the football team.
  • Pacing: Devney’s books are such a good length, not too slow or not too fast. The story opens with one chapter in the past, and the rest is in the present. Which means you learn about their history in the present timeline.
  • Romance: This book is a bit of a slow burn, but with a ton of history. One of my favourites parts of the story was constructing this couple was the tension she wrote into every kiss. It made it so that I knew it would be magical once they collided. Being two adults that are working at a university sports program, they really channelled their inner horny college kid and made up for the lost time. There was a few hot scenes but too much fade to black for my liking. I also found the relationship pacing occurred a bit fast, I know they have a history but they still moved into the serious stage quite quickly.

Coach receives four out of five stars.

Devney Perry + Fake relationship + Marriage of convenience + Edens series = a match made in heaven! This book sure was and I anticipate fans who have long anticipated Eloise’s story will be more than satisfied.

I am a Deveny Perry review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Devney Perry comes a small town, fake relationship romance.

Eloise Eden’s pride and joy is her family’s hotel in Quincy, Montana. Her lifelong dream is to own The Eloise Inn. All she has to do is prove to her parents that she’s the epitome of responsible. That her days of being duped and making reckless decisions are history. She’s so close she can taste it.

Except Jasper begs her to stay married. To fake it for three months so she can accompany him to a wedding. Maybe she’s lost her mind to agree. But her brooding husband seems desperate. It’s only three months, right? Then she’ll say goodbye to Jasper Vale, and with any luck, hello to her new hotel.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: I have been dying to get in Eloise’s head since we met her. I wanted to know more about her dynamic with her parents as we have only been previewed to that from the outside perspective of other Eden siblings. My big question going into this was why they were so reluctant to hand over the keys of the Eloise Inn to the namesake Eloise Eden. I am glad to say readers will get an excellent idea of that once they dive in. Eloise is a girl who walks around with her heart on her sleeve, she is incredibly caring and compassionate to everyone almost to a fault. While our hero Jasper Vale is closed-off and very much keeps to himself. He was introduced in the last instalment, Garnet Flats as Knox’s trainer. The best part about a super stoic hero is watching him fall head over heels in love. This should not surprise me as I know Devney’s writing abilities inside out by now, but damn she did such a great job building a flawed and multifaceted hero with tragedy in his background. A tragedy which was integral to his actions and choices in a logical way. I anticipate readers will love both characters.
  • Setting: I love Quincy! Devney’s imagined Montana small-town works especially well in the dynamics of this story. As the characters were faking their marriage and did not want the entire town to gossip about it much of this book was them convincing others out in public, which in turn convinced themselves. Or the other dynamic was all the lovely isolated and private time this couple got, and that’s where they really fell in love. Also a quick mention to the time we get to spend at the Eloise Inn, I loved this setting and the interesting subplot that grew from it. I was not expecting it and I love how Devney has these thrilling mysteries up her sleeve.
  • Pacing: I just zoomed through this story. I crawled into bed to read it the night I received it and was so immediately enraptured by the story. I read it in under three hours, and was so sad I finished it to fast. Now I have to wait until September to return to the Edens and to Quincy, Montana.
  • Romance: This couple started hot and those embers never dulled. As I alluded to earlier the best parts of this romance were the quiet ones. I adored how they began to build a life together between the walls of Jasper’s A-frame cabin. The scenes in it were both physically and emotionally intimate. I adored this couple, as I have every Edens’ romance. Lylah is next, and I cannot wait to see what Devney has dreamed up for her especially as the tropes and premise feel more reminiscent of Indigo Ridge, my favourite instalment in this series.

Jasper Vale receives five out of five stars.

I am a member of Devney Perry’s review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true. “From Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Devney Perry comes a small town, sports romance. Crew Madigan is a snowboarding legend. He’s gorgeous, rich, famous and every woman’s dream. Well, except mine. I’ll take a nerdy guy with a clumsy streak who wouldn’t know what to do with a pair of skis to save his life. Superstar athletes? No, thanks. World champions? Hard pass. Crew? Definitely not. It’s been over a decade since Crew set foot on Madigan Mountain. Instead of sitting with his family during his brother’s wedding, he takes the chair beside mine. ESPN really doesn’t do that chiseled jaw justice. The cameras miss the flecks of gold in his eyes. When he invites me to his hotel room after the wedding, I break all of my own rules for just one night. But here’s the problem with just one night. Crew is impossible to forget. And he’s not the only one who loves a thrill. The crash, the broken bones, are inevitable. Because together, we’re a little too wild.” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: It is finally time for the youngest Madrigan brother’s story! Crew is definitely the most reckless yet. All the brothers were bad about visiting home, but Crew has never been back since he left twelve years ago. He definitely felt the most troubled and in need of the grounding, home and family can provide. He is not taking care of himself and throughout the book, Deveny built so much tension in what will happen if and when he gets hurt. Enter Raven, who I really really loved! She works at the resort teaching the ski school and has been around Crew for a long time. He has always crushed on her because she is his best friend River’s little sister. Devney did such a good job flushing out both Crew and River’s friendship and the sibling relationship between River and Raven. Setting: We finally got to experience more of the skiing and snowboarding that Penny Ridge has to offer. Some of my favourite scenes in the story were of Crew and Raven boarding together. There was a nice bit of momentum built into, Crew finding out Raven was a fantastic snowboarder and him becoming her biggest cheerleader. It was just so damn adorable. There was a particular ski lift-related scene that was crazy stressful, seems like Devney was trying to give me a heart attack. Pacing: I just wanted to engulf this story. This one was the shining jewel in the series for me, but I am not surprised because there is just something about a Devney Perry book that makes me unable to stop. Romance: Crew and Raven are sorta a friends-to-lovers couple, but also a byproduct of when what is supposed to be a quick fling becomes something for life. I loved how fast they hooked up and then subsequently could not stay away from each other. It is always so fun to read about a couple who doesn’t deny that they have caught feelings. Instead, they are both trying to figure out the logistics, can they make this work without breaking someone’s heart? There is something so real in that, I think a lot of couples will be able to relate. A Little Too Wild receives five out of five stars. Wren’s dad is a bit of a mystery, and everything surrounding it is an even bigger mystery. Setting: Our story is set in Calamity. Calamity is a small town and with it brings the small-time rumour mill. Rumours running wild is a bit of a plot thread throughout this story. Pacing: The story flew by quite nicely. I loved the side plot that had Ronan setting up his law practice and trying to gain the respect of people around town as an outsider. I enjoyed the book as Ronan’s dynamic with Wren and how the two of them really hit it off. Romance: This romance was adorable and endearing. Their story starts with Ronan setting his sights on Larke, he sees her right away for who she is. The kind and caring mother who deserves the kind of all-encompassing love. I loved that once they came together, they could not really stop. The most beautiful part of this romance was seeing Larke and Ronan build and strengthen a family together. I love the Edens family and am so excited for Talia’s story. I am a sucker for a good second-chance romance. I am a member of Devney Perry’s review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and genuine. “Talia Eden loved Foster Madden for one year, two months and eleven days. It was on day 438 that her love died. The day he chose to marry her best friend. The day she vowed never to think of Foster again. Until years later when he has the audacity to show up in her small hometown of Quincy, begging for her help. The ink on his divorce papers is barely dry, yet he comes armed with apologies and promises. She knows it’s all a ploy. Foster is the king of games and secrets. But he’s got delusions the size of Montana if he thinks she’ll help him train for a world championship fight. Except Talia has forgotten exactly what made Foster famous. The man has dedicated his life to victory. He’s steadfast. He’s determined. And he won’t stop fighting until he’s won her heart.” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: Talia Eden is our lead and a doctor in residence at the hospital in Quincy. This is the first time the Eden in our story is one of the daughters, so yes she is Griffin (Indigo Ridge) and Knox (Juniper Hill). She keeps her feelings bottled up, I think we all know someone like that. She loves her family, and her town and wants to give back as a doctor. Our hero is Foster, a literal fighter. He is incredibly loyal, caring, and a family man but with so much guilt, pain and regret. Both of these characters have a bit of a damaging past, but you cannot help but feel endeared to both of them. I liked all the characters that got introduced through Foster, Jasper whom we are getting a story from and Vivienne who I hope we get to see fall in love in the future. Setting: Their story is set in the small town of Quincy, Montana. If you have read any other books in this series you will know the Edens are a huge fixture of Quincy, owning a ranch and the main hotel. I love the entire family and find it so fascinating how many in the town react with animosity. This book delivers good check-ins with our last two couples and gears up for a saucy future one. Foster decides to follow Eden here, 7 years later. I loved how he chose to build a better life in Quincy for his family and leave Las Vegas behind. Pacing: I engulfed this book just like I have done with all the Edens books so far. I loved the way each secret was revealed over time until we finally saw the bigger picture. Romance: This is a second-chance romance, seven years in the making. The details are insane and you really need to take them in one by one as you read the book. Talia and Foster have delicious chemistry. I love how they never stopped loving each other. Garnet Flats receives five out of five stars. Thank you to Devney Perry and her team for the advance reader copy of Garnet Flats, the third book in The Edens series.

And he won’t stop fighting until he’s won her heart.”

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Talia Eden is our lead and a doctor in residence at the hospital in Quincy.
