Willa Nash’s The Brazen ARC Review

Thank you to Willa Nash and her team for the advance reader copy of The Brazen, the third story in the Calamity Falls series. This book releases on July 15th!

I have really been enjoying the Willa Nash debut series that Devney is writing. Kerrigan has been a character in and around the other stories so I am excited to be finally getting her time in the spotlight.

I am a member of the Willa Nash/Devney Perry review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true.

Check out the Goodreads synopsis…

“From USA Today Bestselling Author Devney Perry, writing as Willa Nash, comes a stranded together, small town romance.

Kerrigan Hale’s personal life is about as exciting as a bucket of tar. With hard work and hustle as her steadfast companions, who needs romance or adventure? Her empire in Calamity, Montana, isn’t going to build itself.

For years, her mentor—and investor—helped make her dreams come true. Until his unexpected death put her fate in his grandson’s hands. A brazen billionaire, he seems intent on ruining Kerrigan’s life.

But if Pierce Sullivan thinks she’ll go down without a fight, he’s sorely mistaken. Pushed to the extreme, she drives to his ritzy mountain lodge to force the arrogant You Can Call Me Mr. Sullivan to hear her out.

No sooner does she arrive than a snowstorm traps her with Pierce. Stranded together for days, she’s in for the battle of her life. Pierce is nearly irresistible by candlelight. Without his suits and fancy cars, he’s almost human.

Except only a fool would let down her guard. And Kerrigan can’t risk her future. Not when she doesn’t know if he’s out to pilfer her dreams . . . or to steal her heart.”

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Kerrigan and Pierce are the main characters of this installment. Kerrigan is tough, hard-headed, and stubborn. I loved how incredibly determined she was. She wants to make something of herself, but she does not want to do this by leaving Calamity in the dust. She wants to better the town not just herself. I find often in these types of romance stories the heroine leaves her small town behind. I love that Kerrigan loves and supports her home. While Pierce is a city boy. He is brought into Kerrigan’s life as his grandfather invested in her. Now that he is dead Pierce is in charge of her account. Pierce despite growing up wealthy, did try to make it out on his own. He is a recently divorced workaholic so the pace of Calamity is a welcomed reproach.
  • Setting: The series is set in Calamity, Montana. Calamity is this small town not unlike many of the small fictionalized Montana towns Devney has set her stories in. This time we got to go to Montana in the wintertime and it seemed so beautiful. I love that due to the enormous snowfall they got snowed in! I love the trope of getting snowed in.
  • Pacing: The story was paced quite well. It took place over quite a long amount of time as her loan was extended and Pierce resisted coming back to Calamity.
  • Romance: Their romance was a bit more unconventional. It is enemies to lovers in a beautiful way. The ire they have for each other is palpable. The anger gives way to some great sexual tension. What really made their relationship blossom for me was when they got snowed in. They opened up to each other and began to realize that they have much more in common than indifference. Their romantic scenes were equal parts steamy and swoony. Nothing comes easy for them, they have to deal with objections from her family and another bump in the road. I loved how they banded together in the face of their adversities and were stronger because of it.

The Brazen receives five out of five stars.
