Karina Halle’s One Hot Italian Summer ARC Review

I want to thank Karina Halle and Valentine PR for the advance review copy of One Hot Italian Summer; releasing on July 30th!!

I was over the moon to receive One Hot Italian Summer. I am a huge fan of my fellow British Columbia native and how well she writes books set in Europe. From The Dumonts to Love, In English to my absolute favourite Racing the Sun, Karina kills it every time!

Check out the Goodreads synopsis below…

After the death of her best friend and writing partner, Grace Harper is struggling both with grief, and with her next novel, the first one she’ll have to write alone.

Fortunately, her new powerhouse agent, the formidable Jana Lee, has a solution for her. She can stay at her villa in Tuscany for a month, soak in the sunshine, relax, and find her confidence again. After all, Jana has a lot riding on Grace’s next book, and the last thing she wants is for her reputation as a “super-agent” to be tarnished.

At first the villa is a dream come true for Grace – that is until Claudio Romano shows up one day with his ten-year old son, Vanni, in tow. Turns out, this is Claudio’s house, and Claudio happens to be her agent’s ex-husband from long ago. Thanks to their annual father and son bonding trip being cancelled, Claudio and Vanni are here to stay.

So is Grace.

With the three of them sharing the same house, Grace’s writing plans are thrown out the window. But even if she’s not pounding the keyboard, she’s still finding beauty and inspiration… in none other than Claudio. He’s unlike any man Grace has met before. He’s smart, charming, and wickedly sexy, plus a great father to Vanni. He’d be the perfect summer fling – if only he wasn’t completely off-limits.

But as the hot Italian summer wears on, Grace and Claudio are destined to succumb to the heat, no matter how hard they try to resist each other. One steamy encounter with Claudio could affect Grace’s chances of starting her career over.

Or he could be exactly what she needs.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Grace and Claudio are the main characters of One Hot Italian Summer. Grace is a classic romance story heroine, a writer struggling with a major case of writer’s block after the death of her longtime co-author. Grace’s insecurities are so relatable, she is a New York Times Bestselling author but she is still unsure of herself and her craft. Claudio is the sexy Italian hero, an artist, and a single dad. Absolutely adored him. His son Vanni also plays a key role in the story and I could not help but enjoy the presence of the nerdy young boy. He was a classic Italian only child, which I would know cause I am one of those too.
  • Setting: The story is primarily set outside of Lucca, within the Italian province of Tuscany. Claudio’s villa is the main setting and it is gorgeous. Beautiful flowers and a pool that lends itself perfectly to the character’s meet-cute. The characters also spend time in the city of Lucca itself and a trip is taken to the island of Elba both gorgeous places in Italy.
  • Romance: This relationship was electric! Grace and Claudio both go into it with the idea that it will be a summer fling, but in actuality, their feelings for each other run so much deeper. There are roadblocks to deal with, a son who does not want his mother replaced, and of course the fact that for Grace she has fallen in love with her boss’ ex-husband. The sex that Karina writes in always fire, but there was something about the combo of this couple and the setting that lent itself to some scorching scenes from a gondola to a Ferrari and everywhere in between.

One Hot Italian Summer receives five out of five stars.
