Lauren Blakely’s The What If Guy ARC Review

Thank you to Lauren Blakely and the team at Candi Kane PR for the advance copy of The What If Guy.

I am not saying this lightly this is probably the best book Lauren Blakely has ever written. It has the romance of some of her strongest series like Big Rock and The Heartbreakers. Mixed with the sexual intensity of the After Dark series. It has shown just how much her craft has matured over the years.

Check out the Goodreads synopsis below…

It should be an easy rule to follow – don’t bang your boss…
But I didn’t know who he was when I met him.

And the first time I saw him, our connection sounded like the stuff of romantic legends — that whole “their eyes locked across a crowded room” moment that turned into more.
I didn’t believe it. . . . until it happened to me.

Fine, the charming, clever, sexy-as-sin guy in the tailored suit was only trying to buy the same Snoopy lunchbox (as a gift!), but still, our eyes totally locked, and my lady parts definitely tingled as we vied for the prize.

Naturally, I did what any badass business woman would do. Negotiated for the lunchbox, then found my what-if guy online and made plans to see him the next night.

One night only — that was the deal we made.

But one fantastic night had us both changing our minds in the morning. And making plans for another.

Until I walked into the office to learn he just bought my company.

And here’s the biggest rule of romantic legends — no matter what, don’t bang your boss.

Especially if you’re already falling for him.

Check out my more detailed thoughts…

  • Characters: Byrn and Logan are the main characters of this sensual tale. Logan and Bryn are in a similar situation, getting over their previous failed relationships and the exes that came with them. Bryn writes for a lifestyle website, about romance that she does not have in her own life. Logan is a single dad and is your classic determined, sexy male lead.
  • Setting: New York is a classic Lauren Blakely setting, and as this is a second standalone in a series it retains the same setting. Allowing for multiple characters to reappear from previous stories.
  • Pacing: This story was paced extremely well! I really enjoyed the nature of how fast-paced the beginning was leading up to the relationship roadblock. Then from there, the story pace lent itself well to the do they and don’t they aspect of the story.
  • Romance: Bryn and Logan have an adorable meet-cute, which leads them to use a lost connections app to find each other again after the meet-cute falls short of a number exchange. Their first date is electric, the sexual chemistry between these two is off the walls. The first sex scene is phenomenal. All of that culminates in Logan becoming Bryn’s boss and from then on the story became an office romance, in which they tried as hard as they could to fight their feelings for each other. But ultimately they must succumb to them in glorious fashion.

The What If Guy receives five out of five stars.
