Skye Warren and Amelia Wilde’s Force of Nature ARC Review

Thank you to Skye Warren, Amelia Wilde and the team at Dangerous Press for the advance reader copy of Force of Nature.

This is one of the most interesting Dangerous Press titles yet. This story won’t be for everyone but read my review to see if its for you.

I am a member of the Dangerous Press review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true.

“Carter Morelli survived a violent childhood and dangerous missions. After he emergency lands the small aircraft, he faces something even worse: having someone depend on him. Geologist June Porter wants to study rocks. She didn’t plan to be stranded on a deserted island.

They aren’t alone on the island. A man hides among the broad leaves. He’s almost feral, this man. But he provides them shelter and food.

There are secrets in his hidden cabin. Desire, too.

Carter doesn’t want to care about the bookish, beautiful June.
But he doesn’t like this strange man’s interest in her, either.
Simmering chemistry wars with the need for survival.

Will they be found before they give into temptation?

Welcome to the Midnight Dynasty… The warring Morelli and Constantine families have enough bad blood to fill an ocean, and their brand new stories will be told by your favorite dangerous romance authors.

WARNING: This book is intended for readers eighteen years old and over. It contains material that some readers could find disturbing. Enter at your own risk…”

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: We’ve got three characters to discuss for this title. Carter Morelli, you may remember from previous Dangerous Press books. The more mysterious brother, always in and out of others’ stories. We meet Carter really for the first time in his story. Surprise he is not just a professor he’s a super spy who is keeping secrets from everyone. He has written himself off as a killer and is struggling between his dark and light impulses. June is our leading lady. She is a photographer, who happenstance is part of our story. She is stranded because of Carter and I did admire how she made the best of it. Theo rounds out our trio and he is the most mysterious of them all. Despite what does get revealed in the latter chunk of this first book we all still have much more to learn. So because of this, I don’t really know what to think about him, but I am excited to uncover more of who he is.
  • Setting: If you have read the prequel, The Crash then you are not surprised that our story is set on a stranded island. If you have not read the prequel no fear, Force of Nature starts with the prequel for those who did not read the pivotal opening chapters. Stranding these characters on an island feeds the plot. The quicksand and poisonous plants really move the story along.
  • Pacing: I was intrigued by the prequel and I think after the great pacing in that, the book pacing falls flat. I was not surprised to see this end with a cliffhanger and so it was not shocking. Many elements were kinda just wacky, and I was ready for this book to be a bit off-putting and weird but it just fell flat to me.
  • Romance: This is an interesting romance, that I really am unsure about still. Right off the bat, I will say the scenes of the three of them together were pretty darn hot. Which I was expecting because both Skye and Amelia are great at writing these types of scenes. There were a few times I felt kissing and/or hooking up felt out of place. Carter kisses June for the first time relatively early in the story and I would have rather there was more time for sexual tension to grow. I am interested in continuing to read future instalments. These characters are incredibly shrouded in mystery and I cannot wait to figure it all out.

Force of Nature receives three out of five stars.
