Alta Hensley’s Queen of Hearts ARC Review

Thank you to Alta Hensley and the team at Dangerous Press for the advance reader copy of Queen of Hearts, the second story in the Wonderland series.

I really enjoyed the first book, King of Spades and I am excited to dive deeper into Wonderland.

I am a member of the Dangerous Press review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true.

“No matter how far I run, Nick Hudson finds me

I’m a pawn in a twisted game of power and revenge. And he’s a masterful player.

He’s going to hold me and hurt me, protect me and punish me. In a dangerous world of wealth, decadence, and sin, I have no choice but to sink into to the arms of my enemy.

There’s a price to be paid, though. I must surrender control to enter this new wonderland of seduction. And I must learn to find strength for the fight that’s coming. Being a Morelli has never been so dangerous.

The warring Morelli and Constantine families have enough bad blood to fill an ocean, and their brand new stories will be told by your favorite dangerous romance authors.

WARNING: This book is intended for readers eighteen years old and over. It contains material that some readers could find disturbing. Enter at your own risk…”

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Nick and Lyriope both go through so much character development in this second instalment. I loved how they kept pushing each other and growing not only as a couple but as individuals. Lyriope is growing into her own, she is discovering her own power. Nick’s character is super interesting because Lyriope is getting to him. She is bringing out the good in a very troubled guy.
  • Setting: The setting was the most notable part of this. At the end of the first book, Lyriope runs away to Italy. Nick being the no-so-rational lover runs after her. Then commences a summer in the region of Tuscany, in a small town that Nick owns. I loved getting to spend this time in Italy with them. From the sharing of gelato to the pizza in the shadow of the Duomo to the dips in the stream. I may be quite biased as an Italian, but I love Italy and was so excited to get a break from Bishop’s Landing.
  • Pacing: This story just ripped by. I engulfed it and faster than the speed of light the romance between Nick and Lyriope was growing from lust to love. I was happy that Nick finds her quite quickly and much of the story is dedicated to the growth of their relationship.
  • Romance: What else can I say besides that this is one of the Dangerous Press romances that excites me the most. Lyriope is making our tough broken boy, break down for her. Plus their sexual chemistry is off the damn charts. There were so many incredibly hot scenes. Oh boy do I love a romance where the love interest won’t admit he’s deeply and almost maddeningly in love with our heroine. She is on the right page and I cannot wait for one more instalment where he gets on hers.

Queen of Hearts receives five out of five stars.
