Thank you to Katee Robert, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and Raincoast for the advance reader copy of Midnight Ruin, the sixth book in the Dark Olympus series.

I am nothing if not consistent, and I consistently love Katee Robert’s throuple novels so damn much. Midnight Ruin is phenomenal, I’ve read it twice through before writing this review. If you have not started this series yet I beg you to start with Neon Gods and let yourself be taken away on this rollercoaster of fast-paced political intrigue and toe-curlingly good romance.

I am a Katee Robert review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

Eurydice Dimitriou has always been the innocent sister, but she’s finally ready to step out of the long shadow cast by her powerful family…and the ex who shattered her heart. Perhaps rough hands on soft skin are exactly what she needs to forget her heartbreak once and for all?

Charon Ariti has been Hades’s right-hand man for years. He’s given everything to the lower city, but now he’s ready to take something for himself. He’s only too happy to give Eurydice a special kind of education…but is her heart really free enough to be claimed?

Orpheus Makos will do whatever it takes to make things right. Once the golden boy of the upper city, he’s now a shadow of his former self. He’ll do anything to get Eurydice back…even if it means she’s not coming into his arms alone. Three hearts. Three futures. Countless ways to get it wrong.

But with enemies slipping through Olympus’s faltering barrier to lay siege on the lower city, a trio of broken hearts will be the least of these would-be lovers’ worries…

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Eurydice, Charon, Orpheus – what a cast of lead characters for this instalment! All the Dimitriou sisters have my heart and so of course I was excited to get into Eurydice’s head. After only seeing her through predominately her sisters’ eyes, I loved getting to know this powerhouse character better. She is not as innocent as what meets the eye, which is perfect. Charon and Orpheus were perfect for her because they both brought something different. Charon
  • Setting: Back to the underworld baby! We have not had a tried and true Underworld book since Neon Gods, since book one! I was so happy to be back over the River Styx. I know Katee has spoken about how this book was initially third and I am so happy things were switched around to make the long-awaited return to Underworld just hit perfectly!
  • Pacing: What is so special about Katee and this series is just how well-balanced the political intrigue is against the relationships and the steamy scenes. Every chapter just makes you want to read the next one, and every instalment just ups the stakes in this world!
  • Romance: Katee proves once again why they are just so damn good at writing throuples. The best triads show how the relationships just work as a group of three, not as pairs. I really liked how this was both a second-chance romance and a friend-to-lovers. So much of this series is more enemies-to-lovers so that was a lovely change of pace, I love when Katee throws in a few curve balls to the romance. The biggest one probably being the puppy play which I know Katee even said online came as a surprise while writing but my god it fits this story so well. Orpheus at his most submissive was the missing piece of the puzzle for Charon and Eurydice. Along with what a great take on that second chance that what made Eurydice and Orpheus not work originally really was that people were not their true authentic selves. So simply I say this book was hot and it gets steamy or should I say foggy rather quickly. A Katee Robert slow burn is fun every once in a while, but Katee is at their best when they write characters with so much tension and chemistry that it drips off the page.

Midnight Ruin receives five out of five stars.

Sail the magical high seas with this first book in a new sexy fantasy romance series from Katee Robert, the New York Times bestselling author of the TikTok smash-hit Neon Gods.

Evelyn is a witch with a perfect storm of impulses: terrible taste in bed partners, sticky fingers, and a lust for danger. After she steals from her vampire ex and falls through a portal to another realm, she’s fished out of the waters by a band of seafarers and their telekinetic captain. When he rescues Evelyn, he doesn’t expect to be attracted to the unflappably brassy pickpocket. The longer he spends in her presence, the more he begins to question if his heart is the next thing she’ll steal.

But as tension heats up between Bowen and Evelyn, danger escalates as well. Because Evelyn has no intention of keeping her vows to the Cŵn Annwn, and if she betrays the crew, both she and Bowen will pay the ultimate price….

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: The lead characters are Evelyn and Bowen. Evelyn is a witch, and she is a feisty one and she is paired against the ever-loyal golden retriever-like paladin Bowen. I know many readers do not love Evelyn as the main character, she’s a crass klepto but I loved her. Bowen is noble almost to a fault, I loved the journey he goes on from loyal servant to maybe he should be questioning the things around him. The real scene stealer for me was Evelyn’s ex, Lizzie. I know she is an evil vampire, hellbent on revenge but I found myself so easily cheering her on. I am so excited that the next book will follow her.
  • Setting: The setting was one of the most fascinating aspects of this book! Evelyn portals through from her realm onto Bowen’s pirate ship. He is a member of the Cwn Annwn which are pirates tasked with killing supernatural monsters. Katee through in some epic sea battle and it was the perfect chance to throw in so many great creatures. I found myself most interested in the politics of the Cwn Annwn and what this world was like, rather than cheering for Evelyn to find a way to return to hers.
  • Pacing: I had some issues with the pacing, simply because most Katee books keep me enthralled the entire time and this did not. I had to keep myself going back into it throughout the middle but I was hooked by the end when I had a better grasp of the world and the characters.
  • Romance: I will echo much of the online discourse that this has some major insta-love and I cannot help but feel like this couple does not hold a candle to many of Katee’s other couples. Besides the off-pacing, so many elements of Katee’s books that I have always loved were at play. The sex was off-the-charts hot! All the characters were super queer and accepting, and I loved just how chaotic the dynamic of Evelyn and Bowen could be.

Hunt on Dark Waters receives four out of five stars.

I am a Katee Robert review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

He was my enemy. My lover. My husband.

And the one man I swore by all Olympus I would destroy.

*A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Aphrodite and Hephaestus (and Pandora and Adonis).*

Aphrodite has never flinched at getting her perfectly manicured hands dirty, and she’s not about to start now—even if that means marrying Olympus’s enemy number one, the new Hephaestus. She has a wicked plan to keep her deadly new husband off-balance, seducing the one person he seems to care about most in this world: Pandora, a woman as beautiful as she is sweet.

Two can play the seduction game, however, and Hephaestus is all too happy to put his new wife in her place. Her ex, Adonis, seems like he’ll do the trick. It doesn’t hurt that he’s gorgeous in the way of fallen angels, either.

The only problem with using seduction as a weapon? Hearts are all too quick to get involved. With Hephaestus and Aphrodite trading venomous strikes that feel a whole lot like foreplay, lines become blurred and emotions entangled. But a broken heart may be the least of their worries. With unrest in Olympus reaching new heights, these bedroom games may have deadly consequences for themselves, their city, and everyone they’ve come to love.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: This book features a poly knot of four characters: Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Adonis, and Pandora. Olympus’ current Aphrodite is Eris of the powerful Kaitos clan. Her brother is Zeus and her sister is Ares. I have wanted to be in Eris’ head for so damn long! She is such an interesting character and I loved getting to see different sides of her through how others perceive her along with how she sees herself. You get a different side of Eris with her family and her lovers, she is not just some stilted ice queen. She is loyal, determined and the type of person who avoids feeling or seeming like she needs someone. I loved seeing the cracks in her armour and how others cared for her. Her husband is Hephaestus, a role in which Minos’ adoptive son Theseus killed for. I didn’t know what to expect, but he was a pretty dynamic character. I am looking forward to getting to know more of Mino’s brood of adopted children. Adonis is in this story in a role that mimics his of the Greek myths, he’s Aphrodite’s lover. I really loved his character and his fierce loyalty to Eris. The final character Pandora felt refreshingly different than her mythological counterpart, plus I loved her dynamic with Aphrodite.
  • Setting: Olympus politics are heating up and I live for it! This world is getting thrown for a loop. I love the wider cast of characters so much and how Katee always starts dropping easter eggs for future instalments. I cannot wait to read the next one about Eurdyices, Orpheus, and Charon.
  • Pacing: This story was riveting as I read it in just a few days. Every time I think the stakes are high, Katee finds a way to raise them.
  • Romance: What I loved about the makeup of all the relationships is what I tend to notice in these poly romances. It is very apparent in the Adonis and Aphrodite relationship, for example, that they didn’t make sense as a pair – almost that something was missing. This book just like every book in this series, and basically every Katee Robert book I have read is just incredibly hot. The nature of the poly knot meant you get a variety of combinations, making for some hot sex scenes. Katee always does a good job balancing the toe-curling hot sex with the emotional side of navigating a non-monogamous relationship. These characters really had to go through a loop to embrace happiness in non-monogamy.

Cruel Seduction receives four out of five stars.

Thank you to Katee Robert and her team for the advance reader copy of The Gargoyle’s Captive, the third story in the A Deal with a Demon series.

I am super excited to be back reviewing one of Katee’s monster romances. It is not a sub-genre I pick up too often but Katee brings such an emotional depth to these books, something you may not always expect. This is my fave instalment in A Deal with a Demon yet, Grace is our toughest heroine and Bram just needs a hug!

I am a Katee Robert review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

Grace is a monster hunter who went into her demon deal with eyes wide open. Years ago, her mother made the same choice and was never seen again, and the answers Grace seeks can only be found in the demon realm.

She doesn’t care that she’s auctioned off to a gargoyle. She doesn’t plan to stay with him longer than strictly necessary.

Unfortunately, she didn’t read the small print of her contract.

Every time she tries to escape, she’s transported back into Bram’s tender care. He never hurts her, never punishes her, just meets her fury with an easy charm she doesn’t know how to fight.

She doesn’t mean to give in, to stop fighting. But the moment she does, she starts to forget what brought her to this place and what her goals are. After a life starved of pleasure, she’s all willing to let Bram seduce her again and again…

At least until the past comes calling.

Author’s Note: For all tropes, tags, and CWs, please check the author website.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: I loved Grace! If you are a big Katee fan like me that you would have read The Court of the Vampire Queen and be very familiar with both Grace and the bargain she has struck. If you haven’t read it (well you should because it’s a bonkers hot why choose) all you really need to know is Mina and her men were in a bind and Grace took up the bargain on Mina’s behalf. Why you may ask because Grace wanted to enter the demon realm to find out answers about her mother. Grace is our most strong-willed and defiant heroine in this series, which makes sense as a trained monster hunter from a famed family. She is more than just physically capable though, I loved how she pushed Bram in a way that no one in his solitary life has before. Bram was such an interesting love interest for Grace. Katee always makes jokes online about how these books grow more emotional as she writes, and I have no doubt that shone in Bram. When we meet him he is steeped in trauma and loneliness stemming from his family curse. He needed someone like Grace, someone to help him begin to process his trauma. Not to fully move on from it, but begin to understand how he can let into dictate his whole life and what he can have out of it.
  • Setting: This series is set in the demon realm, with the story kicking off with the auction as a central starting place. If you have read any of the other books in this series you will be familiar with how the world is set up, with multiple domains and a territory leader. So, The Gargoyle’s Captive is set primarily in Bram’s territory, of which he is the leader. This setting does not stand out too much and I would say the most significant part of the story is how people run from the setting, either Grace’s choices to run so she can be chased and the way the lords of the land brush off the seat of power.
  • Pacing: This story just flies by, which is no surprise due to its relatively short length. One part of me enjoys the quick hit of sensuality and emotionality, and another part wants to stay in this world longer. This series is quickly becoming the perfect binge and is a great eye-opener to the world of monster romance.
  • Romance: It’s Katee Robert writing monster romance of course this book is hot! It was super refreshing to read a monster romance where the woman takes charge rather than submits to being the one dominated. This book also plays with so much fun in and out of the bedroom dynamics, such as Grace running away, then being chased after by Bram. This book has a heavy tinge of sadness too, mourning permeates our characters and they both so deserve to have someone to help carry their burdens. Readers I have no doubt will grow attached to Grace and Bram, despite all the twists and turns their journey to being together will take on.

The Gargoyle’s Captive receives four out of five stars.

Yet even as their fake relationship takes a wicked turn for the scaldingly hot, a very real danger surfaces… threatening not only Cassandra and Apollo, but the very heart of Olympus itself.

“Deliciously inventive…Red-hot.”—Publishers Weekly STARRED Review for Neon Gods

“I get shivers just thinking of their interactions. SHIVERS.”—Mimi Koehler for The Nerd Daily for Neon Gods

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Within just a few pages I had fallen deeply in love with Cassandra, she may be my favourite heroine in Olympus that we have met yet. I cannot help but want to root for a social outcast in this society. She is incredibly determined and Katee is so good at weaving great representation into her stories. Cassandra is a tremendous plus-size and bisexual representation. Cassandra works for Apollo, he is one of the thirteen, but he got the role by being selected by the other members of the thirteen. So, no surprise he is a wicked smart spymaster. He got to where he is through being hardworking and determined, virtues Cassandra and readers alike will adore about him.
  • Setting: The forced proximity trope plays a role in Cassandra and Apollo’s romance, but it also dominates the story’s setting. Most of this story takes place in this elaborate house that was Hermes and now it’s the Minotaur’s. This book felt like a game-changer for this world, even more than the last one. I love the politics of this world and this instalment sure took great advantage of this as so many of the thirteen are locked into a single home.
  • Pacing: I devoured this book as I have all the Dark Olympus books. So much of Apollo and Cassandra’s history is from before the book so you are thrown into their dynamic and the book never slows down.
  • Romance: Apollo and Cassandra are your classic we both feel things for each other but what bother telling the other person kind of couple. The tension between them is hot and heavy. Now not only are they keeping their feelings to themselves, throw in the boss-employee dynamic. All they needed was a fake dating scheme and some forced proximity to really reckon with the depths of their feelings. This book is so damn hot. I love Apollo and Cassandra’s in-bedroom dynamic, the portrayal of the softer side of BDSM was so well done. So many readers will love to see this sub-dom dynamic with some bondage play, but maybe not as intense as it can be with other couples.

I could not be more excited for the first triad in the Dark Olympus world! I adored Katee’s throuples in previous stories in the Wicked Villains series. I am a member of Katee Robert’s review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true. “She was the face that launched a thousand ships,The fierce beauty at the heart of Olympus,And she was never ours to claim. *A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Helen of Troy, Achilles, and Patroclus that’s as sinful as it is sweet.* In Olympus, you either have the power to rule…or you are ruled. But can she really believe they have her best interests at heart when every stolen kiss is a battlefield?” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: I love all these characters so so so much! First, in our triad we have Helen, she has been in the Dark Olympus series for quite a while but only as a side character. She is from a very prominent family, with her father being the former Zeus, her brother Perseus being the current Zeus, her sister Eris the current Aphrodite and her brother Hercules (who is the Hercules in the Wicked Villains series.) Growing up Helen had little autonomy over her life and now she has the chance to fight for her own agency and an equal place next to the rest of the thirteen who rule over Olympus. She has a bit of a party girl, spoiled princess reputation but as you read you understand that Helen is much more than meets the eye. She is guarded with everyone and as she opens up you learn how brave, politically savvy and gutsy she is. I did not think it was possible to love a female character more than Persephone in this world, but Helen may be forcing me to change my mind. Now for the men in Helen’s life, Achilles and Patroclus. Just like in the Greek Myth these characters are pulled from, Homer’s The Iliad, Achilles and Patroclus are best friends. These men could not be more different though. Achilles is the warrior, the orphan boy who worked his way up the ranks to Athena’s second-in-command. He wants to win the Ares title because he craves power and respect. While Patroclus joins the competition to back up Achilles. He is the wickedly smart, talented mind counterpart to Achilles’ brutal strength. I loved them both dearly for different reasons. Achilles drove me a bit crazy sometimes but I admired how good he was at reading people. Patroclus is my type of guy, nerdy and shy yet oh so charming. Side note: I love all the side characters so much! This instalment gives you time to check on how our previous couples are doing. I loved how Eros played a special role in this story. The competition brought in so many interesting side characters, maybe some future story ideas? And of course, we got to see some of the dynamics between the new Zeus and the new Hera. I cannot wait to get inside Callisto’s head in the future. Setting: The world of the Dark Olympus series takes place in an alternative version of Olympus. This version is just as wrought with political turmoil as the Mount Olympus of Greek Mythology. This time the majority of the God tiles are positions that can be held. Ares is the contested title featured in this book, which is won by competition. I really liked this idea, as it played off Myth inspiration in an interesting way. It is canon that men vie for Helen’s hand in marriage, I love how in Katee’s version Helen fights for herself. Pacing: I never wanted this book to end! I was hooked from start to finish and was really impressed by how compelling the plot was. Katee did a phenomenal job at pacing how this plot unfolded, both the speed at which our triad fell in love and the speed at which the various rounds of the competition unfolded. Romance: Is it weird to say I knew I was going to love this romance before it even started. In Katee’s Wicked Villains series my favourites were the ménage romances. So I had high hopes for our first throuple in the Dark Olympus world, and they were just so perfect together. To get the most obvious over of course the sex scenes were scorchers and I loved each and every combination we got. The emotional elements were impeccable! Achilles and Patroclus have their own history together. They are lovers, without a label, in an open relationship. Due to the nature of having all three points of view, you understand quite quickly both men love each other and want something more, but something is missing. Enter Helen and she shakes these two up and shows them why the three of them need to be together. They all balance each other out so well and I loved how quickly they fell in with each other. The early chapters featured so many fun jealous moments that gave way to the three of them coming together in a spectacular fashion. These three spend most of the book terrified of what the future holds, and you the reader will not be able to help but cheer for them and their imagined future together. Audiobook Elements: I actually listened to this as an Audiobook ARC rather than read the eARC. So, I wanted to spend some time mentioning the pros and cons of the audiobook if you were considering that format. This story has two narrators, a female and a male. As there are two distinct male points of view, the guy does a distinct accent for Achilles and Patroclus. I really liked the sounds of their voices and the intonation and speed of their speech. Often when I am listening to things I want to rush the speed but this time around I kept it at a normal pace because I was enjoying their storytelling. Wicked Beauty receives five out of five stars. She was the face that launched a thousand ships,

I started reading Katee’s books two years ago now and I fell in love with her taboo tales. So I am excited to do my first official ARC team review for her and of course its for a story about a monster with two dicks. “Briar Rose might have a name out of a storybook, but she learned at a very young age that no prince was coming to save her. She’ll have to save herself. Unfortunately, even that is an impossible task in her current situation—trapped in a terrifying marriage to a dangerous man. Desperate times call for desperate measures, which is how she finds herself making a deal with a demon. Freedom from her husband…in return for seven years of service. She expects the service to be backbreaking and harsh. She doesn’t expect to be put on an auction block in a room full of literal monsters and sold to the highest bidder. To Sol. A dragon. He might seem kinder than his fearsome looks imply, but she knows better than to trust the way he wants to take care of her, or how invested he is in her pleasure. In her experience, if something seems too good to be true, it certainly is. Falling for Sol is out of the question. She’s suffered enough, and she has no intention of staying in this realm…even if she leaves her heart behind when she returns to her normal life. Sol has the responsibility of his people on his to lead him to select a human bride. Sol looks kind of like a lizard mixed with a human with a tail. I loved Briar Rose. Briar is not some fragile heroine, she is a survivor. She has such a brave and determined soul and I love how Sol acknowledges this about her. Setting: The concept of this demon world Katee has created is super interesting. The concept of these contracts and how humans interact with the demon realm was quite fascinating. I really like how Katee set up so many future books. I know we are getting the Krakens story next. But there is a ton of potential from Kusalka the succubus, Bram the winged demon and Thane the tentacle monster. I am also very interested to see if we ever get Azazel, the bargainer demon himself find love. Pacing: This is a very quick read, as I was expecting. It makes for some great escapism. If you are struggling to pick up something during a reading slump or have been bogged down by some chunky fantasy books. Then this may be the next story for you. Romance: Dragons have a strict culture so he married Briar and now he is trying to seduce her. But Briar is not so wild about this marriage. I enjoyed how Katee built Briar’s backstory, having her have this past that she fights with. A past she tries not to have defined her, but sometimes she cannot help but feel a little broken, That’s why Sol is her perfect match. The big dragon is kinda a big softie (well out of the bedroom, cause in the bedroom he’s a little rough just like how Briar likes it). If you love the Morellis and Constantines as much as you do, I bet you are also over the moon to be whisked away to a Christmas ball with all our favourite characters. Dangerous Press kicked off with a short story anthology, Dark Fairy Tales. So it is lovely to return to the kind of storytelling we started with. Now though we all know the world and will appreciate checking in on our favourite characters. Along with introducing some new stories to come next year! I am a member of The Dangerous Press review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true. “Brand new holiday stories for bestselling authors! This boxed set contains powerful alpha men and heroines who bring them to their knees… Enter the world of dark mansions and mysterious heroes. The notorious Morelli family hosts their annual Christmas ball. And you are invited to experience the sensual feast. MEET ME UNDER THE MISTLETOE is an exclusive anthology of scorching hot NEW holiday stories. Download your copy and tell a book-loving friend, because it won’t last long.” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Skye Warren’s Halleluiah: I love Eva Morelli and I am so excited to get a full story about her very soon! This short story introduced us to Finn, Eva’s love interest. I loved seeing Leo be a super protective brother. All this story does is keep me excited for Skye Warren’s future book and for more Morelli secrets to be revealed. 4 stars. Amelia Wilde’s O Come All Ye Faithful: Fuck I love this couple so much! I love how Haley’s character strikes the perfect balance between insecurity and confidence. The sexy scenes were hot fire in this one too. 5 stars. Giana Darling’s Baby It’s Cold Outside: I was so excited to start this story and see that it was Elena and Dante. It was so rewarding to read more of their story. Their sex scene was phenomenal. If you are not excited about Dangerous Temptation after reading this story, well you should be! 5 stars. Theodora Taylor’s This Christmas: This one is the most mysterious of the bunch. But I just did not get really invested in this one at all. 3 stars. Sam Mariano’s Wrapped in Red: I was very enthralled with this couple. This was an office romance, which is always a fun trope. I could have seen myself reading a whole book about Georgia and Lee. 4 stars. Pam Godwin’s O Holy Night: Time for two of my faves, Tinsley Constantine and Father Magnus. Swoon! I just love the way they do everything from loving to fighting to fucking. I loved seeing Tinsley meet Elaine and Lucian. Plus there was a scene that may have involved a church altar and it was hot fire. 5 stars. Clare Contreas’ Santa Baby: This one was an interesting premise. Of two individuals living their lives apart but were meant to live them together. I loved getting to read two sides of a love story coming back together again. I was glad to see a male character display so much emotion. 4 stars. Katee Robert’s Last Christmas: I was excited to see an O’Malley show up. I am a huge fan of all of Katee’s work and this story is no exception. This story is about Carrigan’s nephew Cael. I loved how this one is an older woman and a younger man. Falling in love with a Senator’s wife, how scandalous. I loved this short and sexy, yet still sweet. 5 stars. M. O’Keefe’s Little Drummer Boy: This story is about Zilla, Poppy’s sister. I love that this one featured an unconventional friend with benefits relationship. The sex was hot but I wanted to be more invested. They may have worked better with a longer story. 4 stars. Jenika Snow’s It Came Upon a Midnight Clear: Gallina and Arlo are a couple of Jenika’s from a previous book. A book I have never read so I did not have any prior investment in them. I found them a riveting couple with incredibly hot sex. 4 stars. Maria Luis’ Carol of the Bells: Laela Donna is being a recluse but a sexy mystery man is attempting to seduce her. I really loved this one and all the twists in it. 4 stars. Sienna Snow’s Silent Night: Greek mafia! I love the change from it always being about Italians, Irish or Russian mobsters. This was an interesting relationship dynamic. 3 stars. Jade West’s Away in a Manger: Yes! It is time for Lucian and Elaine. I loved getting to see them as parents. Lucian is such a softie with his kid and I adore how he melts for Elaine. The sex scene was hot of course! 5 stars. M. Robinson’s All I Want for Christmas Is You: Jax is an all-star quarterback and has no interest in settling down. At the Morelli ball, he is immediately attracted to this mystery woman. The story ends abruptly and I would have loved a sexy scene and a longer story. 3 stars. Alta Hensley’s Silver Bells: Lyriope is the Morelli’s sibling’s secret half sister. Nick Hudson catches her eye at the Morelli Christmas Ball. He is the owner of the Wonderland Club, an exclusive mysterious sex club. I cannot wait for their trilogy so we readers can jump headfirst into wonderland. 5 stars. Meet Me Under the Mistletoe receives four out of five stars. You can pick up the story below for free!! • Pam Godwin’s O Holy Night: Time for two of my faves, Tinsley Constantine and Father Magnus. Swoon! I just love the way they do everything from loving to fighting to fucking. I loved seeing Tinsley meet Elaine and Lucian. Plus there was a scene that may have involved a church altar and it was hot fire. 5 stars.
  • Clare Contreas’ Santa Baby: This one was an interesting premise. Of two individuals living their lives apart but were meant to live them together. I loved getting to read two sides of a love story coming back together again. I was glad to see a male character display so much emotion. 4 stars.
  • Katee Robert’s Last Christmas: I was excited to see an O’Malley show up. I am a huge fan of all of Katee’s work and this story is no exception. This story is about Carrigan’s nephew Cael. I loved how this one is an older woman and a younger man. Falling in love with a Senator’s wife, how scandalous. I loved this short and sexy, yet still sweet. 5 stars.
  • M. O’Keefe’s Little Drummer Boy: This story is about Zilla, Poppy’s sister. I love that this one featured an unconventional friend with benefits relationship. The sex was hot but I wanted to be more invested. They may have worked better with a longer story. 4 stars.
  • Jenika Snow’s It Came Upon a Midnight Clear: Gallina and Arlo are a couple of Jenika’s from a previous book. A book I have never read so I did not have any prior investment in them. I found them a riveting couple with incredibly hot sex. 4 stars.
  • Maria Luis’ Carol of the Bells: Laela Donna is being a recluse but a sexy mystery man is attempting to seduce her. I really loved this one and all the twists in it. 4 stars.
  • Sienna Snow’s Silent Night: Greek mafia! I love the change from it always being about Italians, Irish or Russian mobsters. This was an interesting relationship dynamic. 3 stars.
  • Jade West’s Away in a Manger: Yes! It is time for Lucian and Elaine. I loved getting to see them as parents. Lucian is such a softie with his kid and I adore how he melts for Elaine. The sex scene was hot of course! 5 stars.
  • M. Robinson’s All I Want for Christmas Is You: Jax is an all-star quarterback and has no interest in settling down. At the Morelli ball, he is immediately attracted to this mystery woman. The story ends abruptly and I would have loved a sexy scene and a longer story. 3 stars.
  • Alta Hensley’s Silver Bells: Lyriope is the Morelli’s sibling’s secret half sister. Nick Hudson catches her eye at the Morelli Christmas Ball. He is the owner of the Wonderland Club, an exclusive mysterious sex club. I cannot wait for their trilogy so we readers can jump headfirst into wonderland. 5 stars.

Katee Robert’s The Bastard’s Betrayal ARC Review https://clarynathanwill.com/reviews/katee-roberts-the-bastards-betrayal-arc-review/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=katee-roberts-the-bastards-betrayal-arc-review https://clarynathanwill.com/reviews/katee-roberts-the-bastards-betrayal-arc-review/#respond Wed, 25 Aug 2021 16:32:00 +0000 https://clarynathanwill.com/?p=3418 Thank you to Katee Robert for the advance reader copy of The Bastard’s Betrayal, the first book in the Scandalous Scions series. This book releases on August 25th! I have adored every single Katee Robert book I have read and so despite never having read The O’Malleys, I decided to pick up this spinoff series. I am ready for this mafia romance to rock my world. Check out the Goodreads synopsis… “She thought it was love. Rose Romanov is a mafia princess, and everything that entails. Violently over-protective parents. A giant extended family, all ready to kill anyone who looks at her wrong. Learning to run a business that isn’t exactly on the right side of the law. So, naturally, when she meets a nice guy who isn’t in the life, she falls hard… Right up until she discovers her new boyfriend isn’t a civilian at all. But he betrayed her. When Dante Verducci was sent on an undercover mission to evaluate the Romanov family for weakness, he never expected to have an instant connection with their unlikely heir. There’s something fierce and feral about Rose that calls to him. They’re alike, even if they’re both lying to each other during the months they date. Before he could figure out a new plan, Rose finds out who he really is, dumps him, and immediately enters an engagement with the heir of a rival family. Yeah, no, that’s not going to work for Dante. Now he’ll do anything to reclaim her. Even go to war.” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: Rose Romanov is the heir of the Romanov mafia family. She is the daughter of Dimitri and Kiera Romanov. If you have read Katee’s The O’Malleys series, specifically the sixth story The Bastard’s Bargain, then you will be familiar with them. I have not read any of these books yet, I do plan to after reading this story. Rose is the eldest of four girls and she takes being the heir quite seriously. I loved how strong her character was. She was incredibly tough and loyal. She has done very little to anger her parents except for when she accidentally stumbled into the bed of the enemy. Dante Verducci is from a rival mafia family based in Los Angeles. Dante hid who he was to get closer to Rose. It is his betrayal that is referenced in the title. Yet he is much more of a morally gray character. Dante is equal parts caring and devilish towards Rose. My absolute favourite part about Dante was all his Italianisms. Setting: The Romanov family is based in New York which just felt like a classic setting. A perfect setting to have rival mafia families duke it out. A good chunk of the novel is spent in the wilderness, in hiding. I love how a setting like that really forces characters to come together. With the New York mafia, world setting came a huge list of side characters. So many of whom I am excited to read about hopefully in the future. Especially Rose’s sisters are some gals I would love to read about next. Pacing: The story felt quite fast-paced. It would have been interesting to have had a bit of a longer book. Maybe more scenes of when Rose thought she was with a normal guy. I liked what Katee did with having the story open with Rose shooting Dante. I just did not have an investment built up to really feel the betrayal. Romance: These two were just hot, hot, hot together. There were so many great sexy scenes. I loved how Dante in one sentence would call Rose his beloved and in the next, he would be rough and dirty with her. Reading Rose’s resolved dissolve was really enjoyable. To read a woman who never saw herself worthy of anything but an arranged marriage, fight for the man she loves. The Bastard’s Betrayal receives four out of five stars. You can pick up the story here. Katee Robert’s Broderick ARC Review https://clarynathanwill.com/reviews/katee-roberts-broderick-arc-review/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=katee-roberts-broderick-arc-review https://clarynathanwill.com/reviews/katee-roberts-broderick-arc-review/#respond Wed, 14 Apr 2021 21:32:00 +0000 http://clarynathanwill.com/?p=2669 Thank you to Katee Robert for the advance reader copy of Broderick, the second installment in the Sabine Valley series. Broderick releases on April 13th! The Sabine Valley series is shaping out to chucked full of triads, sword crossings guaranteed, sexy, yet emotional stories. I really enjoyed the first installment, Abel. So I was super pumped to read about Abel’s brother Broderick as his story is M/F/F. I just cannot help myself, I keep engulfing these stories. Check out the Goodreads synopsis… “Seven Brothers. Seven Brides. A revenge seven years in the making. I never wanted any part of my family’s revenge, but no one asked my opinion when my oldest brother handed out the Brides during Lammas. Now I’m saddled with Monroe, heir to the Amazon clan. She’s as deadly as she is sarcastic, and nothing like the woman I really want. Shiloh. My best friend. The night Monroe and I consummate our handfasting is like nothing I’ve experienced before. It’s dark and brutal and intoxicating in a way I’m not prepared for. Which means it can never happen again. But now, every time I turn around, I find Monroe and Shiloh together. She’s spitefully seducing my best friend, the woman I truly want, and there’s not a damn thing I can do about it. I can’t have one without the other, but letting Monroe close might mean I lose myself completely.” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: This installment’s trouple is Broderick, Monroe, and Shiloh. Broderick is hand-fasted to Monroe, so now he is kinda dealing with being married to the enemy, just to keep the peace. Broderick is your classic alpha and as Abel’s second in command, he is someone you wouldn’t want to mess with. But she is not the one he wants, he has always been in love with his best friend Shiloh. Shiloh had an extremely difficult childhood and ran away to join the Paine Brothers. Seeking that comfort, she also fell in love with Broderick. So these two live apart, determined not to tell the other about how they feel, until Monroe enters the picture. Monroe is the heir of the Amazons. Monroe is a bad bitch and I loved her. She puts up a hard exterior but she really began to care about Broderick, Shiloh, and ensuring lasting peace in Sabine Valley. Setting: Sabine Valley is the setting of the series. The society is fractured as there are multiple factions all vying for power. The Paine Brothers’ hand-fasting has caused quite the stir and now we are getting a real look at the Amazon faction. The politics of the Amazons is intense as we get a full picture of how diabolical Aisling, Monroe’s mother and the Amazon Queen can be. Pacing: The story is paced quite well, as there are many revelations as a part of the plot. I did not find aspects of this rushed rather I found that the way these three realized how they worked better together at just the right pace. Romance: Oh my is this ever a hot book! With the hand-fast comes a scene in which the marriage in consummated. That is only the start as these three had a chemistry and electricity that kept forcing them together. I especially loved the attraction the gals felt for each other. Especially with Monroe, nobody wanted to admit that someone they had always seen as the enemy was incredibly attractive and someone they very much desired. There’s electric scenes between all the characters in different duos, but they sure do shine brighter working in tandem together. Katee sure is the queen of the triad and I cannot wait to keep reading about more Paine Brothers and their conquests. Next up is Cohen, his bestie Maddox, and Monroe’s little sis Winry. Broderick receives four out of five stars. You can pick up the story below… https://t.co/SBw4AyzMvr?amp=1 Thank you again to Katee for the review opportunity.
