Lauren Blakely’s A Wild Card Kiss ARC Review

Thank you to Lauren Blakley and her team for the advance reader copy of A Wild Card Kiss, the first story in the Happy Endings series.

The premise is super-duper intriguing, so Lauren has me hooked!

I am a member of Lauren Blakely’s review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true.

A sexy standalone romance between a single dad athlete and the woman who got away!

Things that suck on my wedding day — walking in on my groom kissing another woman twenty minutes before the ceremony.

Things that suck worse? The woman he’s kissing is my mom.

I head straight for the bowling alley bar down the street and ask for a double. And in walks a deliciously charming local football hero — Harlan Taylor.

Yes, I’ll take another drink in the form of a one-night stand with this hunk of a man. In the morning, he asks if I want to get together again. More rebound nookie? Yes please!

But then I learn his football team just hired my yoga studio to teach downward facing dog to their star player, making my O-delivering hottie officially off limits.

Trouble is, the more time I spend working with the sexy single dad who dotes on his daughter, the more I’m feeling all the things far too soon.

There’s no way this can end well, but tell that to my runaway heart…

A Wild Card Kiss is a sexy, flirty sports romance featuring a charming, pie-baking, single dad who’s never forgotten the red-hot kiss he planted on the feisty, sassy blonde one night years ago and a jilted bride heroine determined to move on from heartbreak. This story contains sexy times that can cure getting-left-at-the-altar blues, and heart-tugging swoony romance that’ll melt the most jaded hearts.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Our hero is Harlan, he is a very suave athlete. This southern gentleman is a football player at the top of his game. He is the single dad to a six-year-old daughter, Abby. Our heroine is Katie, is a Texas girl and yoga instructor. What I liked most about her was that she is the type of girl who knows what she wants and goes for it. She is coming off of a nasty breakup, she was about to walk down the aisle and he cheated on her!
  • Setting: The story is primarily set in San Francisco, where many of Lauren’s recent stories have taken place. All it creates is tons of cameos and sets up many of the next books to come as. So that is very exciting!
  • Pacing: This story was paced in a very interesting manner. It opens eight years before present time with a wonderfully shameless flirtatious meet-cute for Harlan and Katie at a wedding. But because of this interesting pacing, for the vast majority of the book, our couple is not together. By the time they got to spend valuable time together, the book was over.
  • Romance: This book is oozing sex appeal. Katie and Harlan are super flirty with each other and I loved many of their milestone moments together. They had a phenomenal first kiss and I love how they went about reconnecting seven years later. Despite the years, they have the same chemistry they have the day they met, talk about a second chance romance. They really have a golden opportunity to go after the one that got away.

A Wild Card Kiss receives four out of five stars.
