Months later, I think I’m dreaming when I see her doing bartender tricks here in Vermont. Now all I can think about is having those long, beautiful, fingers performing their magic on my body.

• Characters: Trevor is our male protagonist and he captured my heart. He knew what he wanted and that was his firefly. I loved how romantic and smooth he was. But I loved how he was also an incredibly flawed character. He could not help but hide his challenges, including a father struggling with alcoholism and a denied business loan. Melody’s life is ridden with struggles. She finds herself in Vermont running away from her troubles, and justifiably so. I loved how complex and flawed both characters were. It made me so invested in the story.
• Setting: This story starts at a bar in Brooklyn but the heart of the story is the Speakeasy. When Melody has to leave her job at a Brooklyn bar behind, she finds a new home at the Speakeasy in Vermont. I loved getting another story from someone who works at the gastropub. Melody became friends with lots of people who work there and I loved seeing many of them again. Including Pheobe from Touchstone, Ty and Belle from Heartwood.
• Pacing: I was hooked on this story very early on. I loved the opening chapters that laid out the lay of the land very quickly for all of us readers. There was a great meet-cute, followed by a great setup to the struggles that mare our characters’ lives. I read the book incredibly quickly because I did not want to put it down. Even when I got emotional I fought through my tears and kept reading.
• Romance: I absolutely adored the romance between Trevor and Mel. Their chemistry was so electric their kisses could start a three-alarm fire. Trevor was just such a charmer and I sure fell for him fast, so I knew Melody would not be able to resist him for very long. What I especially loved about this romance is that they are the type of couple that brings out the best in each other. Absolutely stellar installment in the Speakeasy Taproom series.
