Thank you to Devney Perry and her team for the review copy of Runaway Road, the first book in Devney’s new series Runaway.
Check out the Goodreads synopsis…
“Londyn McCormack didn’t have a typical childhood. She ran away from home at sixteen, escaping parents more interested in drugs than their daughter. She doesn’t have loving siblings or an adorable pet. Her only family is the five other runaway kids who shared her junkyard home.
Life pulled them all in separate directions, taking her to Boston. For a short time, she thought she’d found something permanent. But after a devastating divorce, she’s running away again, this time to find a lost friend.
She’s driving across the country in her convertible. As a teenager, the rusty car was her shelter. As an adult, it’s her ride to freedom.
Except one flat tire derails her trip. Her life collides with Brooks Cohen. They walked away from the first crash. The second might destroy them both.”
Check out my more detailed thoughts below…
- Characters: Londyn and Brooks are the main characters of this novel. Londyn is a runner, when the going gets tough she’s out. Whether it be a poor family situation, an unhappy job, a lifeless marriage, a cheating husband, or the chance at happiness. Brooks is your small town, a humble guy who works super hard. He owns/runs his own business, raises his son, and supports his parents.
- Setting: Londyn flees Boston to end up, stranded in rural Virginia. This is Deveny’s first book set out of Montana and she did a wonderful job. The small-town dynamics that Deveny writes so well the gossipy nature, the way everyone knows each other, the interconnectedness.
- Romance: Perfect second chance romance! Londyn and Brooks are the classic divorces who married young due to circumstances on both their ends. They are so deserving of making each other happy, safe, and content. Watching how beautifully they fit into each other’s lives was wonderful.
Runaway Road receives five out of five stars.
