• Characters: Oz works at Vino & Veritas and has been a character featured in previous instalments. So when I started this book I was so happy to see we were finally getting his story. Oz is the only single pringle left in his family. He is also the only boy, with three sisters. His parents are successful professionals in various medical fields so they put a lot of pressure on Oz to do well. They want him to get serious about his life and finding a potential partner, which is something I think a lot of readers will relate to. Reeve on the other hand depicts a different relationship with one’s family. Reeve is a bit of a runaway and is Vino & Veritas’ newest employee. He is fresh off university with a finance degree and is planning on working for his family’s company. But for now, he has escaped to Vermont for the summer to get away from the pressure his family places on him.
• Setting: The boys hook up in Colebury and they meet up at the Speakeasy. Which I loved because I loved the Speakeasy taproom. When really both boys love and work in Burlington. Oz is a born and raised Vermonter and demonstrates the determination of so many Vermonters in this series. A determination to stay in Vermont and make it a better place.
• Pacing: I did not read this book that fast because I felt compelled to sit with these characters for a longer amount of time. From start to finish this book was entertaining and had me hooked.
• Romance: They have an unconventional meet-cute for sure. As their dating app hook up turns into a steamy, chemistry-ridden one-night stand between hook-up pro-Oz and one-night stand virgin Reeve. I love how just a few weeks later they were co-workers. It made me laugh my head off when they had to reintroduce themselves to each other in front of their boss. At its core, this book follows the fake relationship trope and we professional romance readers always know how those end up. Reeve is a trooper for going to Oz’s family dinners but soon he is being treated as a member of the family. I loved how this romance was more than just Oz and Reeve’s romance, it was also a story of Reeve gaining love and acceptance. I loved whenever Oz and Reeve had to do PDA to keep up the facade and how all that cascaded into a full-on friends-with-benefits situation. I really really loved this romance and it made my heartache as the boys navigated the will they or won’t they of whether or not Reeve was gonna leave Vermont for Connecticut.
