Thanks to Lauren Blakely and her team for the advance reader copy of Sex and Other Shiny Objects, the second standalone novel in the Boyfriend Material series.
I am so excited to enter this new year and a new decade with my continued presence on Lauren Blakley’s review team. It has been so much fun to be sent every one of her releases and to see for myself how her writing has evolved over the past year. I promise you Lauren is kicking off 2020 with a good one!

“The second the test-the-sexy-scenes offer landed in my lap, I said yes.
After all, I’ve been damn curious about a few things I’ve read in romance novels. Do buttons truly go flying across the floor when you rip off a guy’s shirt? Is staircase sex hella hot or does it leave you with a big old bruise mark on your back? And don’t even get me started on all that panty shredding, and whether it even works.
Time to find out as I embark on Project Sexy Scenes Research, at the request of my hotshot book editor bestie.
All I need is a willing scene partner. Enter Tristan, my best guy friend. The witty, tell-it-like-it-is, bearded hottie volunteers for the experiment.
He’s also the guy who gave me the most devastating, toe-curling kiss of my life ten years ago. But nothing has happened since then.
And nothing will come between my panties and our friendship now since we have a plan to keep it PG.
But once the buttons start flying, all bets are off…”
Check out my more detailed thoughts…
- Characters: Peyton and Tristan are the main characters of Lauren’s first published story of the new year! Peyton was a hoot, she owns her family’s lingerie store and her passion for continuing her grandmother’s legacy was inspiring. Tristan is the kind of man who nurtures and cares for everyone in his life. Both his parents died leaving him to care for his younger brother and watching their relationship in this story was wonderful.
- Setting: Lauren has been primarily setting her books in New York City recently, and I love it! The hustle and bustle of New York fits perfectly with the world Lauren is building. To illustrate Peyton loves the chocolate from Lulu’s store, previous readers will remember Lulu from Birthday Suit. The nature of how Lauren sets her books allows for these check-ins on characters of the past.
- Pacing: A+ work every time!
- Romance: I can not get over the chemistry that Peyton and Tristan had! I literally had goosebumps the majority of the story, even the smallest touches between them had me feeling the electric energy. Lauren you goddess the sex was so good in this one! I loved the way these two admitted and let their feelings take control of the scenarios they were testing.
I give Sex and Other Shiny Objects five out of five stars.
