Lauren Blakely and Joe Arden’s How to Get Lucky ARC Review

Thank you to Lauren Blakely, Joe Arden, and their team for the advance reader copy of How to Get Lucky, which releases on January 20th!

I am a member of Lauren’s review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true.

I am so excited about this release, the first Lauren Blakely of the year! And if you are a fan of Lauren then you might recognize the name, Joe Arden. Joe has been one of Lauren’s leading men in her audiobooks for years. He is taking a foray into being her writing partner for this release.

Check out the Goodreads synopsis…

A sexy standalone romance written by #1 NYT Bestselling Author Lauren Blakely and Award-Winning Romance Narrator Joe Arden!

Every man knows there are lines you don’t cross. Like this one — don’t bang your boss’s little sister.

Too bad I didn’t know sexy, clever, irresistible London is related to the guy who signs my paychecks. Would have been helpful to have that intel before I took her out on that first date, before I kissed her on the beach, before I made plans to take her home that night.

But now I know and I’m going to be so damn disciplined. I’m a good guy, after all. And good guys don’t break the golden rules of the bro code. I’m going to follow the f&*k out of all the rules. I won’t break a single damn one.

Even when London asks me to help her with a work project. One that has us working late every night, all alone, in my tiny apartment.

One that tests every ounce of willpower I have.

One that is driving me out of my ever loving mind.

But I resist.

Until the night she issues a challenge I can’t refuse.”

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Teddy and London are the main characters of this love story. The story is almost exclusively told from Teddy’s point of view. He is a single twenty-eight-year-old Los Angelino who is ready to settle down with the right woman. Despite a degree in English Literature, Teddy has taken up a career as a DJ. His current job is DJ-ing at a male strip club. This is how London enters his life. She is a choreographer, back in LA after years in Las Vegas and has been hired by the same strip club to choreograph routines. Teddy and London have a really awesome first day but once he realizes they are gonna be working together he is really reluctant to peruse anything more with her. He had once dated and broke it off with an Ex whose’s dad was his boss and he subsequently lost his radio show after the breakup. Having been burned already he is careful not to do the same thing again. To make matters worse London is not just his new coworker she is his boss’ little sister, the owner of the club.
  • Setting: The story is set in Los Angeles allowing for it to feature two creatives who fall in love. It was such a fun setting as you get a fun cast of LA peeps from the male strippers who work at the club to London’s besties.
  • Pacing: I love how this story was written. As I mentioned earlier the story is pretty much told from Teddy’s point of view. Where we get to understand London’s feelings is through the chapters that showcase her text chain with her two besties. These were such a fun way to break up the story and show an alternative way of including a second POV.
  • Romance: These two were absolutely adorable. Teddy’s knowledge of literature made for such adorable scenes where he and London referenced works like Pride and Prejudice and Emma. They both bonded over their love of dogs and even their dogs Bowie and Mr. Darcy became fur friends furever. What really stood out with Teddy and London was their immense chemistry and just how hot their kisses were. Like I did not even need them to go any further because their make-outs were like three-alarm fires.

How to Get Lucky receives four out of five stars.
