Emma Scott’s Falling Like Stars ARC Review

Thank you to Emma Scott and her team for the advance reader copy of Falling Like Stars, a new standalone.

I always adore the emotional onslaught guaranteed with the latest work from Emma Scott. I’ve missed her writing dearly as she writes these gems that make me laugh and cry.

I am an Emma Scott review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

She kept her heart locked away…until she gave it to the world’s biggest movie star.

In the dazzling world of Hollywood where fame and glamour reign supreme, award-winning megastar Zachary Butler longs for something more than red carpet events and paparazzi flashes. As he navigates fame and tries to extricate himself from his celebrity ex-fiancée, he discovers an unexpected spark with Rowan Walsh, a production assistant on his latest project.

Rowan, haunted by a devastating moment in her past, shields her heart behind walls of guilt, letting no one in. But Zachary’s genuine affection and desire for a meaningful life begin to chip away at her defenses. As their connection deepens, Rowan must battle the self-destructive patterns that have held her back from embracing her passions and finding true love, while Zachary must reveal his own hidden scars—wounds he’s borne in silence for years—if he hopes to heal.

Can Zachary and Rowan confront their pasts to build a future together, or will the storms of scandal, tangled relationships, and the scrutiny of stardom ruin their hopes for a perfect Hollywood ending?

Falling Like Stars is a brand new, emotional standalone romance from USA Today bestselling author, Emma Scott, coming this summer!

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Zachary Butler is an actor while Rowan Walsh is a production assistant and they meet on the set of his latest movie. When we meet Zach he’s fresh off a toxic relationship with his ex and finds comfort in his time with Rowan. When the book begins it is Rowan who is dealing with a heavy emotional trauma from her teenhood, which is affecting her ability to go after not just the job she wants but the job she deserves. She is punishing herself, in her love life as well just sleeping with awful guys. She has a tight circle of friends but no family left. As the story progresses and Rowan begins to grow it is Zach who begins to see his past in a new light. I adored Zach and the way that Emma Scott went about writing his story with such care.
  • Setting: This story is set in Los Angeles as it is a Hollywood romance, with a sojourn to Alaska to film a movie at one point. The Hollywood elements felt so damn good, it was the paparazzi, the awards, and all the fanfare that made this book
  • Pacing: From the opening prologue Emma Scott delivers a sucker punch that hooks you in and brings you close to tears. I cannot stress enough how much her writing makes me feel every emotion in such a big way. I will say this was the first one of her books where I did not full-on sob, as it had a lightness to it, but in true Emma fashion, she hits her readers with some pretty heavy trauma later into the story as Zach pieces together vignettes of his past.
  • Romance: This love story felt healing, basically an Emma Scott specialty. I loved their early scenes together, the way it all started over stolen moments in a hot tub with one shared glass of wine. I enjoyed how this love story really blossomed out of a beautiful friendship. Emma may not have written a new love story in two years but she could never lose her touch. The enormity of Zach and Rowan’s feelings, and the intensity of their chemistry will have readers savouring every word of this.

Falling Like Stars is 4.5/5 stars
