Thank you to Elsie Silver and her team for the advance reader copy of Wild Eyes, the second interconnected standalone in the Rose Hill series.
Elsie keeps getting better and better! Wild Eyes is a standout and is truly Elsie at her best with excellent spice, heartwarming characters, and a few emotional gut punches that had me full-on bawling my eyes out (in a good way).
A rugged mountain town seemed like the perfect escape from a life in shambles. But on day one I ran full tilt into the world’s hottest single dad and now all my plans are ruined.
As a chart-topping country singer with a recent streak of bad press it’s hard to find any peace. But I find it in Rose Hill. With a little boy and a little girl who steal my heart just as thoroughly as their dad.
Weston Belmont.
The man is a shameless flirt. He oozes confidence and masculinity in a way that’s downright distracting. And in bed? He’s addictive.
Everything with him is wild and impulsive and I’m desperate to regain some control.
But no one has supported me like West does. And no one has ever made me feel as loved as he does either.
So, while my brain says settling down with a small-town horse trainer is impossible… my heart says I’m right where I belong.
Still, my life as a celebrity haunts me. It has the power to pull us apart.
I can see in his eyes that wants me to stay. And I want that too.
But I know better than anyone that we don’t always get what we want.
Check out my more detailed thoughts below…
- Characters: Skylar Stone and Weston Belmont are our lead characters, and of course, West’s children Ollie and Emmy are standout characters as well. Skylar’s character really hit home for me. I think she will be relatable to so many readers, to anyone who is a people pleaser, and to those who often put the happiness of others above their own. West is truly only green flags, the nicest gentleman cinnamon roll hero with just the right dash of naughty in the bedroom. It is so damn easy to fall for this man and his family.
- Setting: Rose Hill has all the charms of a small town in British Columbia. The comforting pace of life in Rose Hill just made me want to live and breathe in this world for as long as I could. Being set in Rose Hill you get many glimpses of Rosie and Ford along with their extended friend group. I loved seeing Skylar’s amazing working relationship with Ford, which then led to a wonderful friendship with Rosie. It was wonderful to read about a character like Skylar who has struggled to have that found family of friends beside her and now she has been cared for by a wonderful group of women. The makings of an epic girlfriend group have begun, and I cannot wait to get Tabitha’s book next. Each moment of hers with Rhys has me counting down the days to this marriage of convenience love story between two enemies.
- Pacing: It is so damn easy to get sucked into one of Elsie’s books and never want to leave. Wild Eyes is no exception to that rule, the laugh-out-loud banter I forced myself to savour this one a bit rather than engulf it as I have done with Elsie’s previous books. So many of the scenes I just wanted to live in forever, when they went out in the boat all together I adored it. I have already referenced crying multiple times in this review, but I truly haven’t cried more while reading an Elsie Silver book. For me when I bawl my eyes out but also laugh my face off, you know it is a good one.
- Romance: This romance felt like it was written in the stars like they were truly soulmates. Skylar has never had someone care for her the way West does, someone who is patient and proud. He loves her and everything she does because she does it. But what makes it so special is how much West and his kids needed Skylar too, she was their missing piece. West never wanted to settle down and I loved how quickly that idea was thrown out the window once he met Skylar. I loved how Skylar fell so hard and fast for Ollie and Emmy, when the third act breakup was hitting what made me burst into tears was Skylar realizing she’d have to leave the kids.
- Spice: This romance is the definition of an Elsie Silver slow burn, just the way I like them. Most other authors I get frustrated when I have to wait for that first kiss, but with Elsie, it is so worth the wait. Oh my god chapter 30 and every spicy chapter in between, she just keeps getting better at crafting scenes that live on in infamy in romancelandia.
Wild Eyes is 5/5 stars
