Thank you to Devney Perry and the team at WildFire Marketing Solutions for the advance review copy of the Candle Palace.
I am a huge fan of Devney Perry’s Jamieson Valley series and was so ecstatic to see her release this novella. It was so lovely to see how Sara and Milo fell in love.
Check out the Goodreads synopsis below…
“Sometimes a single flame can ignite a love that lasts a lifetime.
Milo Phillips knows the meaning of pain. Suffering through the most intense physical agony of his life, he’s confined to a hospital bed to bear it alone. More than once, he wishes he’d died in the explosion that melted and mangled his skin. Darkness consumes him, snuffing all the joy in his life and leaving an empty hole in its place.
But one day, a flicker of light sneaks into his hospital room, driving away some of the hopelessness. For the first time in months, pain isn’t all he feels.
The flicker’s name is Sara Foster, his new nurse. Milo just hopes that Sara can see past his scars. Because underneath, his heart has begun beating again just for her.”
Check out my more detailed thoughts below…
- Characters: Sara and Milo are seen together in the Jamieson Valley series, so this novella acts as a look back on how they got together. Sara’s character development is phenomenal in just this short novella, from the quiet girl Milo meets at the beginning to a woman willing to stand up for herself against anyone and everyone. Milo is recovering from an accident that occurs in the Jamieson Valley series, he’s courageous and brave throughout the novella.
- Setting: The hospital in which Sara and Milo meet is located in Spokane, Washington. It is explained in the story why Milo is in Spokane (treatment for the accident) and how Sara ends up in Montana with Milo.
- Pacing: It’s a longer novella, but I was so happy it was. If it was any shorter then it would not have been the proper length to showcase Sara and Milo falling in love.
- Romance: It was so powerful to watch two people surrender to these immense feelings of love for each other that they began to feel. To sacrifice occupations and living situations especially in Sara’s case, just proved to me how beautiful and worth it this relationship truly was. I’m so happy Deveny chose to share this backstory with us.
