There are important things to consider when jumping into NA for the first time: Don’t go hardcore or extreme right away! This might put you off NA forever. NA deserves a gradual entry, one should start with novels that tow the line between NA and YA. My recommendation for someone’s very first NA book is… Slammed tells the story of an eighteen-year-old girl who moves to a new city with her mother, after the death of her father. She meets her new neighbour and he asks her out for dinner. The two of them have a wonderful time on their date and are looking forward to pursuing this relationship further until the first day of school arrives and the protagonist discovers her new neighbour is her English teacher. This story is a great introduction to central ideas explored in NA, as the protagonist deals with issues larger than high school angst. This book is highly emotional, I cry every time I re-read it. This is such an essential read and the gateway drug into all the other Colleen Hoover novels. CoHo is a pinnacle of the NA world, she is beloved by some and despised by others. You are not really an NA reader until you pick up some CoHo.   The next thing you should take into account are the tropes you might want to read. NA is all about categorizing the stories into general concepts. I am such an easy to please reader that I love so many tropes, but I do fall into cravings of certain tropes every once and a while. There may be a day I wake up and I need to pick what I want to read next and for some reason, I’m craving hockey romance. These next two books are both by Cora Carmack, another super popular NA author. Both of these stories should help demonstrate to you what you like and want more of. Both of these books take place in universities, a location that you should figure out if you like. All Lined Up has a football element, and as someone who does not enjoy watching sports, I would understand this fact turning people away from the story. I actually love reading books with sports elements, Cora Carmack’s Rusk University series is my fave for football. Most of my favourite ones happen to be the hockey ones (probably cause I’m Canadian). Sports is never front and center, but it throws in interesting problems for the characters to solve. Losing It is one of my absolute favourites this one is much artsier, the protagonist is a theatre major. It conveys emotion phenomenally, and I re-read it constantly.   The next thing you should consider is how much time and energy you want to put into a series. NA is both very standalone and series based. Often an author has written a series of standalones. So you can read them individually in any order you want, but the most rewarding way to read it is in publication order. Wait For You was one of the first long-haul NA series I read. This series is now six books, I started it when there was only three, but I knew there would be more. NA series like this one brings something really special to the table, the ability to see how characters you love are doing years down the line. The couple from book one will continue to appear in some shape or form in the next instalments allowing you to check up on them. This luxury doesn’t really exist in a YA series, where you might just follow the same couple for three books and then have to say goodbye. Some NA series are in the double digits now as readers have fallen in love with a world, and the authors are satisfied with continuing to write in it.   Finally, despite my first warning of going in slow if you want something that pushes your limits a bit look no further than this Katy Evans book…   There are thousands of NA books about wealthy businessmen with broken pasts (because Fifty Shades of Grey was a phenomenon), but my personal favourite of the trope and the one I compare any new back to is Manwhore. If you want the truest NA expirence you should pick this one and any of Katy Evans’ other books, just like the others authors I have mentioned so far she is renowned in the genre.     I hope these recommendations can guide you into the NA world, as always reach out to me if you want any tailored recommendations. I am more than happy to place an NA book in your hands that you would fall in love with. Thank you for reading and supporting my blog!

I was lucky when I started to read New Adult a few years ago that there were many reviewers that steered me in the right direction, so I want to do that for you now. There are important things to consider when jumping into NA for the first time:

Don’t go hardcore or extreme right away! This might put you off NA forever. NA deserves a gradual entry, one should start with novels that tow the line between NA and YA. My recommendation for someone’s very first NA book is…

Slammed tells the story of an eighteen-year-old girl who moves to a new city with her mother, after the death of her father.

Finally, despite my first warning of going in slow if you want something that pushes your limits a bit look no further than this Katy Evans book…

There are thousands of NA books about wealthy businessmen with broken pasts (because Fifty Shades of Grey was a phenomenon), but my personal favourite of the trope and the one I compare any new back to is Manwhore. If you want the truest NA expirence you should pick this one and any of Katy Evans’ other books, just like the others authors I have mentioned so far she is renowned in the genre.

For this next installment, I am focusing on the sister duo, Krista and Becca Ritchie. Well, I won’t be focusing on them, a special guest will be.   Hello, my name is Pietro Maximoff (or Quicksilver) and I have been informed by the Fizzle Force (the fans of these Authors) that I play a significant part in the author’s works. The main character’s of Krista and Becca Ritchie’s most popular series are huge Marvel, specifically X-Men fans, to the point that they named their eldest son after me. Krista and Becca are prolific writers (according to Christina) having published 15 novels independently and for their first time this year, a teen novel traditionally published by Wednesday Books. Below I will debrief their multiple series, that if you ask any member of the Fizzle Force, are all essential reads.   The Addicted Series The Addicted Series tells the stories of the three Calloway sisters, the daughters of one of America’s most successful businessmen, as they struggle and thrive through school, fame, addiction, relationships, and family relations. Addicted to You, Ricochet, Addicted for Now, Thrive, and Addicted After All follow Lily Calloway, the middle daughter and the main protagonist of the entire series. Lily’s arc deals with her sex addiction and her friend to lover to boyfriend relationship with her best friend, Loren Hale, who suffers from alcoholism. Kiss the Sky and Fuel the Fire’s protagonist is Rose Calloway, the eldest of the sisters as she reluctantly falls in love with Conor Cobalt, as he struggles to admit he has fallen for her too. Hothouse Flower and Long Way Down are Daisy Calloway and Ryke Meadows’ story. Daisy is the youngest and she deals with many trials and tribulations but is able to conquer them with Ryke by her side. Christina wants me to stress that she views these books as essential reads, that she has learned so much from Lily, Lo, Rose, Connor, Daisy and Ryke. She believes these lessons are important to all readers and is begging you to pick up the first book, Addicted to You.  If you want to pick up this series her recommended reading order is: Addicted to You (Lily and Loren) Ricochet (Lily and Loren) Addicted for Now (Lily and Loren) Kiss the Sky (Rose and Connor) Hothouse Flower (Daisy and Ryke) Thrive (Lily and Loren) Addicted After All (Lily and Loren) Fuel the Fire (Rose and Connor) Long Way Down (Daisy and Ryke) and Some Kind of Perfect (an extended epilogue novel, from multiple points of view)     Next up is the series that I believe is the best, but I am biased cause the main character’s first name is my last name. The Like Us Series The Like Us series tells the story of the children of the Calloway Girls and their significant others, so far the books have been from the point of view of Maximoff Hale (Lily and Loren’s eldest son) and his bodyguard and love interest, Farrow Keene. This series focuses on fame, family, and relationships. All three branches of the family and their bodyguards fill the cast of supporting characters. The series is not completed yet, but three books are out right now, and according to Christina, they are some of Krista and Becca’s best work. You could easily read these apart from the previous series if the ten books that precede it is daunting but be fair warned The Like Us Series is growing every year, and the order is… Damaged Like Us (Maximoff and Farrow) Lovers Like Us (Maximoff and Farrow) Alphas Like Us (MaXimoff and Farrow) Tangled Like Us (Jane and Thatcher) (coming out this fall!) Untitled (#5) (Jane and Thatcher) Untitled (#6) (Maximoff and Farrow) Untitled (#7) (Oscar and Jack) Untitled (#8) (Akara and Sulli)     If you are like me and you don’t have enough time to read (cause you are being an Avenger), fear not the sisters have also written duologies! Aerial Etherial The Aerial Etherial duology are two books that can be read together, or individually. They tell the stories of two different couples and the world of a Cirque-de-Solie inspired Vegas circus act. Amour Amour (which was actually Christina’s first Ritchie sisters book) tells the story of Thora James who throws everything else she has worked for in her life away and moves to Vegas to audition for the aerial show. After not getting in, she seeks the help of Nikolai, who is one of the show’s best artists. Infini’s protgonists are Luka and Baylee. Luka is Nikolai’s brother and both he and Baylee are already in one of the circus shows. The story delves into their relationship as it existed in the past and what it will be in the future. Christina tells me that both these books are really special.   The Raging Ones The Raging Ones released this past summer and happens to be Krista and Becca Ritchie’s first traditionally published release. The book follows Fanny and it opens up on her experiencing her death day (in this world everyone knows the day they will die, and it gravely affects a person’s socio-economic status). Fanny falls asleep that night and is woken up the next day by the other protagonists, Court and Mykal. The catch is why didn’t Fanny die, and how did Court and Mykal outlive their death day too? This will be a two book series, the second and final book The Last Hope is releasing August 13th, 2019. Christina wants me to tell you that the first book was really good, and she has been recommending it to so many people recently)   I really hope you take Christina’s recommendation’s to heart and pick up these books. Again they must be good if both the characters in them and the authors are fans of me and my other X-Men. My Top 5 Most Anticipated 2018 Fall Releases (and Assignment #1) https://clarynathanwill.com/lists/my-top-5-most-anticipated-2018-fall-releases/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=my-top-5-most-anticipated-2018-fall-releases https://clarynathanwill.com/lists/my-top-5-most-anticipated-2018-fall-releases/#respond Thu, 13 Sep 2018 16:00:30 +0000 http://clarynathanwill.com/?p=330 When I say that I am excited and nervous for fall book releases I am not kidding. The excitement comes from the next installments in some of my favourite series. The nerves come from two of my favourite series concluding this fall. Let’s start with excitement! Tangled Like Us releases sometime this fall (a date has not been set yet, but hopefully will soon.) Tangled Like Us is the fourth book in the Like Us Series (which is the spinoff series to the phenomenal Addicted series). The Like Us series follows the children of the characters of Krista and Becca Ritchie’s previous series. This world of their’s is one of my absolute favourites. Without a doubt Addicted to You is one of the most influential books on my life, as it made me aware in ways that I never was before. The Addicted series tackles addiction in such a careful and attentive manner, that you cannot help but leave your reading experience with a fresh understanding of the addictions written about and their effects on relationships. I am excited about Tangled with Us as it is the story of my two favourite character’s daughter and I have only read her in a supporting role in the three previous novels and I am just so excited to be inside her head. I highly recommend jumping on this series, I know it is really long (Addicted is ten books and Like Us will be eight books once it is finished) but it is so worth it. You can add it on Goodreads and catch up on the other books here: https://kbritchie.com/reading-order.html   Royally Yours (the cover reveal is this month, stay tuned for a blog reveal post) releases October 30th. The Royally series by Emma Chase is a favourite in the New Adult community. Everyone was sad when the trilogy came to a close but within the last year, Emma Chase has announced this fourth instalment and a spinoff series. The Royally series tells the stories of different members of the Wescco royal family and their romantic endeavours. There is no word yet on who this book is about, but fans are speculating the next generation of the royal family all grown up will be the ones to take center stage in the next instalment. You can add it on Goodreads and check out the previous books in the series here: https://www.goodreads.com/series/180054-royally A Nordic King releases September 21st. Karina Halle is one of my favourite authors and not just because we have the same hometown. You can check out her all of her works as i’ve detailed in a previous blog post (warning there is a lot). A Nordic King tells the story of the widowed King of Denmark and the tension between him and his children’s nanny. The story can stand alone, but I also highly suggest books that have some characters in common The Swedish Prince and The Wild Heir. I just love everything that Karina writes so I could not be more excited for her next book. You can add it on Goodreads and check out all of Karina’s books here: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4785031.Karina_Halle   Next up are some conclusions that have been years in the making.   Queen of Air and Darkness releases on December 4th. I cannot even put into words my love and hero worship for Cassandra Clare. The reader I am today is because of Cassie and her books. Every one of her endings is bittersweet but is also so exciting because she has yet to write a bad ending. If you are unaware of Cassie and the world of Shadowhunters you need to check out City of Bones right now. If you have already read the other Shadowhunters series, but have been unsure about picking up The Dark Artificies (QOaaD is the final book in the trilogy) I am here to tell you, read it! These books are more mature and really delve deeper into comparisons between racial relations and the far right in our world to the species-ist bigoted Shadowhunters of the Shadow world. You can add it on Goodreads and check out the entire Shadowhunter chronicles here: http://shadowhunters.wikia.com/wiki/The_Shadowhunters%27_Wiki:Readers%27_Guide   Kingdom of Ash releases on October 23rd. Much to my surprise Kingdom of Ash is my most anticipated book this year (usually it is Cassie’s next release). I have been invested in the Throne of Glass series for years and I truly have no idea how it is going to conclude. Part of me is hopeful that all my babies are going to be okay and that all my favourite couples are going to live happily ever after. The other part of me is terrified that some large sacrifice will be required to conclude the final battle and everyone I love will die. So I am totally calm right now, not freaking out at all. If you have not read Throne of Glass or my fave from Sarah, A Court of Thorns and Roses I highly recommend them. You can add it to Goodreads and check out the rest of the series here (I highly recommend reading it in publication order!): https://www.goodreads.com/series/51288-throne-of-glass   Thank you so much for supporting my blog and for reading about my most anticipated releases. Please leave a comment if you are also excited for any of these books, and if not are there any books you are excited for this fall? Thanks again!     UPDATE: The response to my meme and this post I could not be more grateful for: Likes from: Krista and Becca Ritchie and Publishing@SFU Retweets from: Emma Chase, Krista and Becca Ritchie, Karina Halle, and Publishing@SFU Reply From: Emma Chase: Thank you to all the wonderful authors who interacted with me and shared my blog post.

Let’s start with excitement!

Tangled Like Us releases sometime this fall (a date has not been set yet, but hopefully will soon.)

Tangled Like Us is the fourth book in the Like Us Series (which is the spinoff series to the phenomenal Addicted series).

You can add it on Goodreads and catch up on the other books here: https://kbritchie.com/reading-order.html

Royally Yours (the cover reveal is this month, stay tuned for a blog reveal post) releases October 30th.

You can add it on Goodreads and check out the previous books in the series here: https://www.goodreads.com/series/180054-royally

A Nordic King releases September 21st.

Karina Halle is one of my favourite authors and not just because we have the same hometown. You can check out her all of her works as i’ve detailed in a previous blog post (warning there is a lot). A Nordic King tells the story of the widowed King of Denmark and the tension between him and his children’s nanny. The story can stand alone, but I also highly suggest books that have some characters in common The Swedish Prince and The Wild HeirI just love everything that Karina writes so I could not be more excited for her next book.

You can add it on Goodreads and check out all of Karina’s books here: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/4785031.Karina_Halle

Next up are some conclusions that have been years in the making.

You can add it on Goodreads and check out the entire Shadowhunter chronicles here: http://shadowhunters.wikia.com/wiki/The_Shadowhunters%27_Wiki:Readers%27_Guide

Kingdom of Ash releases on October 23rd.

You can add it to Goodreads and check out the rest of the series here (I highly recommend reading it in publication order!): https://www.goodreads.com/series/51288-throne-of-glass

Thank you so much for supporting my blog and for reading about my most anticipated releases. Please leave a comment if you are also excited for any of these books, and if not are there any books you are excited for this fall? Thanks again!

The NA Books That Have Made Me Cry… https://clarynathanwill.com/lists/the-na-books-that-have-made-me-cry/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-na-books-that-have-made-me-cry https://clarynathanwill.com/lists/the-na-books-that-have-made-me-cry/#comments Thu, 03 May 2018 20:26:27 +0000 https://clarynathanwill.wordpress.com/?p=79 It was quite common for me to shed a tear during each and every YA book I read, where as NA has not had a similar effect. I have noticed over the years that I do not cry as commonly as I had before while reading. I know that NA follows usually a similar pattern in which when a couple does get together, and then a conflict while arise around 65-85% of the way through the novel that breaks them up. The later part of the story tends to show how they get back together and make amends for whatever broke them up in the first place. I think knowing this affects why I do not tend to cry. It is only when a NA book really touches me deeply that my emotions are set off. Making the books below some truly phenomenal reads…  Full Tilt (Full Tilt #1) by Emma Scott  I cannot even explain to you how much I bawled my eyes out during this damn book. Between the heartbreaking situations both characters are in and the immense love they begin to feel for each other, all I did was cry, cry, and cry some more. To make matters worse the ending is probably the ending that has left me the most raw of any NA book I have ever read. This is book so important as it truly reminds the reader about the importance of living life to the fullest and not holding back your love for anyone and everyone.  All In (Full Tilt #2) by Emma Scott I am pretty sure I cried even more in the sequel. Most of the tears came from me reeling from the events of the previous novel and their implications to this story. Just read Full Tilt and then All In and thank me later!  Mists of the Serengeti by Leylah Attar I do not even know how to explain how phenomenal and emotional this book is. NA books do not usually stand out because of things like their setting but Tanzania was just beautiful in this story. The book begins tragically, making you cry from the very start. The littlest things in this book would make me burst into tears. Over the course of the story your tears evolve from sadness to happiness and every emotion in between, Please I beg you to pick this one as it a wondrous story.  The Birthday List by Devney Perry I am a huge fan of Devney’s work and her latest release was stunning. The Birthday List begins tragically with the protagonist becoming a widow at a young age. The tears flowed more and more as she opened herself up to love again. You gotta read this and all the other books written by Devney Perry.  Dearest Ivie (Black Dagger Brotherhood #15.5) by J.R. Ward I know this is the millionth book in this series, but it deserves a special mention. I am a huge fan of this mammoth series, and if you are ever in the mood to marathon a lot of books I could not recommend this series more. Why this is on the list is that I was not expecting to bawl my eyes out. There’s a twist part way through that I will not spoil here, but it was heartbreaking. I cried all the way until the end.  Say You Want Me (Return to Me #2) by Corinne Michaels I recently read the Return to Me series and this book stood out as I lost it, in the last quarter of the novel. This is another example of there’s a huge twist and this book becomes something completely different. Again no spoilers, but I cried like a baby. The series was pretty great overall, but this was the only book that made me cry.  Retreat (Getaway #1) by Jay Crownover Jay is one of my most favourite authors and this is one of my faves from her. The story starts off with the classic NA trope of city girl goes to small town to get away and meets the cowboy love interest. This story evolved into so much more, and the events left me in tears. Some tears fell due to the ups and downs in the relationship between the characters, and others fell due to the situation and the mystery that unfolded. This is such a good book, really you should read it.  Strong Enough by Melanie Harlow and David Romanov This is hands down a favourite NA of mine. The struggle and angst exhibited in this story inspired so many tears. If you have never read m/m I highly encourage this one. It is the best m/m I have read from any NA authors. This is truly a beautiful book.  Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover When it comes to picking an author that has inspired the most tears in my NA reading life, it is hands down CoHo. Ugly Love has always been my favourite and every time I read it I just cry. I cry because so much of it is sad for both Tate and especially Miles, but ultimately the only way I can process all my emotions around them falling in love with each other is to bawl my eyes out.  It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover Besides Ugly Love, only It Ends With Us has matched the size of the puddle of tears that I sit in while I read. I understand the drama surrounding some Colleen Hoover books, but this one is such an important story. This is quite an emotional story, hence the tears. Every women needs to read this, that is mandatory.   I hope you have been inspired to pick up some of these books along with a box of tissues. Thank you for reading!
