Karina never misses! I knew this retelling was in good hands because I knew she could definitely deliver something equally spooky and steamy. If you are looking for a smutty read this spooky season look no further.

I am a Karina Halle review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

From the New York Times bestselling author of River of Shadows and A Ship of Bones and Teeth comes a smutty spooky dark academia gothic romance retelling of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, where Kat Van Tassel doesn’t have to choose between Brom Bones and Ichabod Crane, and there are worse things haunting them than the Headless Horseman.

Ever since she was a child, Kat Van Tassel knew that her parents had arranged for her to marry her best friend, Brom Bones, when she became of age. That was until Brom mysteriously vanished from the secretive village of Sleepy Hollow when he was just a teenager.
Now, at nineteen, Kat is fulfilling the tradition of attending Sleepy Hollow Institute, a shadowy and prestigious school that is run by her powerful family. There she starts to fall for her new teacher, the enigmatic, smart, and much older Ichabod Crane, whose fascination with dark magic and the occult brings out a new side of Kat—in more ways than one.
Until Brom Bones suddenly appears in her class. Her childhood friend doesn’t remember what happened to him in the four years that he’s been gone, all he knows is that he’s back in Sleepy Hollow for good. The only problem is, he’s not the same man that Kat knew. Cocky and brash as a youth, this Brom is violent and prone to bouts of madness. It doesn’t help that his reappearance coincides with gruesome decapitations that are plaguing the town, with rumors swirling about a vengeful ghost called The Headless Horseman.
Determined to get to the bottom of the murders and Brom’s volatility, Crane takes Brom under his wing to study him, and they begin to grow close, just as they do with Kat. But the more that the threesome submits to their sexual desires on the path to the truth, the more dangerous Sleepy Hollow becomes.  The Headless Horseman might claim them as his next victims…if something even more terrifying doesn’t get to them first.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Our heroine Katrina Van Tassel was the perfect point of view character. She is just as naive as the reader about what Sleepy Hollow holds and I loved seeing points of the mystery unfold through her eyes. Her heroes, are Ichabod Crane and Brom Bones and in Karina’s story, she will not have to choose one over the other. Crane is a professor, specifically the newest professor at Sleepy Hollow’s academy and he was probably my favourite part of this book. His character was so interesting and I loved how hard he fought to protect not just Katrina, but Brom. Brom is not just Katrina’s childhood friend but her betrothed. Crane has his own history with Brom, something I cannot wait to explore more in the sequel. Brom is complicated and I really did not know what to think of him except for he better be okay!
  • Setting: This story is set in Sleepy Hollow and I loved all the spooky vibes! The story begins with Katrina heading off to the Sleepy Hollow Academy which has the best dark academia and gothic vibes. Some of the scenes here were absolutely terrifying, especially Crane’s scenes overnight. I loved finding out more about the school, and all the teachers and students within it.
  • Pacing: From the first few pages I was hooked on Hollow. I started it Sunday night read as much as I could and got up early before work on Monday to finish it. I always find Karina’s pacing so compelling and I loved where she took the story. This book ended in the perfect spot and has made me just die with want for more.
  • Romance: What initially intrigued me about this book was that it would be Karina Halle’s first MMF romance. This first instalment only really plays with MF and MM as Karina builds all the character relationships, and so no complaints from me I like how all of it is developing. Needless to say, this book is so smutty and I ate it all up. Katrina and Crane are that professor/student dynamic that I am always a sucker for with a nice eleven-year age gap. Crane and Brom’s relationship while only given a few glimpses I cannot wait to see how it develops. Karina did such a good job illustrating how Katrina will be the glue in this triad and now I must just wait patiently for what I know will be a delicious payoff.

Hollow receives five out of five stars.

Thank you to K. Webster and her team for the advance reader copy of The Unruly, the fourth story set in The Wild universe and the follow-up to The Untamed.

I want to preface my review with a warning that one should check the trigger warnings before diving into not just this book but any book from the world of The Wild. I found this book incredibly intense and I want to warn people now that my being uncomfortable did affect my review.

I am a K. Webster review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

“They took everything from us.
Our home. Our family. Our freedom.

We’ve been forced on a trip from hell with people we hate.
With each step we take, we lose hope of ever making our way back home again.
These people have a wicked agenda.
We are their prey.

They’re brutal and cold.
Every person in their group has twisted delusions.
I need for my other brothers to rescue us and release us from our prison.

As time quickly passes, I realize no one is coming for us.
The only way we’ll escape is if we save ourselves.

I’ll have to be smart and calculating.
The timing needs to be just right.

When we make our great escape, I’ll finally be at liberty to explore the feelings I have for my brothers. Love, so pure and innocent, can’t be a bad thing.

Desperate. Starved. Agonizing. Desire.

The way I ache for my siblings doesn’t feel wrong.
I can no longer fight against these forbidden cravings.

We’ll love in secret and hope our parents don’t find out.
Because, if they do discover what we’ve done, it could mean banishment, or worse.

Whatever happens, we’ll figure it out. We’re in this together.
Nothing will keep us apart ever again.

Our love is untamed.
And we are the unruly.”

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • This review will contain some spoilers for the previous book The Untamed.
  • Characters: Ronan, Ryder, and Raegan are all put through individual trials in this book. I went through this book in a whiplash of caring for a character, feeling incredibly sometimes even sickenly bad about what was happening to them and other times I was so frustrated. There is miscommunication throughout so much of the book, and all I wanted was for one of the children to talk to their parents about the rumour Devon stirred up in the previous instalment. That being said if K. Webster writes more books in this world, especially about Rowdy and/or Destiny I will most likely pick it up as I was super invested in a lot of the side characters and the side plots of this one.
  • Setting: The story is set in the Alaskan wilderness and for those who read The Untamed they will know this story opens with some of our characters kidnapped away from the homestead. Power to all of these peeps for making the best of it out in the woods, I could not do it.
  • Pacing: K. Webster always nails some pretty dynamic pacing, but I did find myself almost rushing to finish this book rather than wanting to savour it. Granted the characters do spend a decent chunk in captivity and while I do not think that it took up too much of the story. It did compel me to speed through the first half or so. Based on my feelings and weariness around the tropes you may ask why I was compelled to say yes to this ARC, well simply the cliffhanger at the end of the last book had me dying to know what would happen next.
  • Romance: I should preface this now with the kink this book explores is obviously not for me, but I gave it a chance because I have enjoyed countless K. Webster books in the past. I do even think The Wild is worth the read. This “romance” was a step too far and it wasn’t really even them being biological siblings that undid it for me, it was their lack of chemistry. The plot points for the relationship were way too predictable, and even once I figured out where Regan in particular would end up it just made me groan. I also want to mention that I understand completely why K. Webster depicted sexual assault scenes, the characters were kidnapped and someone would have been so disgustingly violated during that. What was jarring was reading about someone having sex for pleasure and then being sexually abused in the next scene, it was the whiplash that had me correctly uncomfortable for much of the story. This is a personal preference that I did not scenes so close together, and that when I am reading for fun there is only so much whiplash I can take.

The Unruly receives two out of five stars.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Our not-always-so-heroic hero is Adam Goode—the goody-two-shoes son of the most famous pastor in all of Texas. Adam followed his father and became a preacher, living his entire life in a way that pleased his father. All of that changes once he catches his father Truett Goode in the VIP section of Austin’s premier sex club. Sara built such an interesting character in Adam, he’s incredibly torn between what he has thought as righteous behaviour all his life and what was sinning. Damn does he sin well, especially with Sage involved. Sage is our heroine, she partially owns the sex club and is a spitfire with bright pink hair and a body covered in tattoos. Never the type of girl Adam would have gone for as he and the reader get to know her better we understand how loyal, caring, and supportive she is of not just Adam but her laundromat found family. Sara set up a crew of Goode brothers and planted seeds for future stories that I am pumped to read. I did find Adam toying between acting like a saint and acting like a sinner grew a bit tiring near the end, when I was just so invested in his relationship with Sage that I wanted them to figure things out so badly.
  • Setting: This story is set in Austin, Texas which was the perfect setting for a story like this. Setting this in Texas worked for the fact that there would be a famous pastor on the level of Truett Goode. What Austin brought though was the ability to be weird and quirky, to have a popular sex club on the main street. A key set piece of the story is the laundromat that Sage lives above, and I loved so many scenes that went down in there, especially the book club scene.
  • Pacing: I could not help but savour this story. It would be easy to fly through but I could only read it in chunks before I went to bed and I looked forward to returning to the story each night. The story never had a low point and really chugged along perfectly. I wished the cam work/sex tapes part of the story was more flushed out, rather than fodder for a few hot scenes.
  • Romance: Adam and Sage were just sinfully sensual. This book features heavy use of degradation kink, just to warn you if that is not for you. I really enjoyed Sara’s depiction of Adam’s struggles with excepting that Sage wanted rough sex and that she craved feeling that pain. This man who grew up so worried about being gentle fell so deliciously into some rough play. Their relationship begins as a fake dating scheme, just something casual to piss off Truett. I loved how it flowed so naturally from allyship to friendship to a relationship. I got emotionally invested in them, while also still getting to enjoy so many hot scenes.

The Anti-Hero receives four out of five stars.

Thank you to Sienna Snow and the team at Dangerous Press for the advance reader copy of Claim, the first book in the Violent Delights trilogy.

The Dangerous Press world was missing this story! I loved this and cannot wait to see where it goes next. Sophia Morelli is a determined brat in need of a bit of taming from Damon Pierce, but to him, she is a temptation he cannot afford.

I am a Dangerous Press review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

Damon Pierce has a dangerous reputation at Violent Delights.
As for the submissive women he plays with? They get one night only.
Any more would put them at risk.

He has no interest in emotional entanglements.
Especially not with Sophia Morelli.
She’s too brazen. Too beautiful.
And the sister of one of his closest friends.

Still, he finds himself drawn to her beckoning sensuality, her mouthy attitude, and the compelling innocence he discovers under her bold facade. Despite how much he may wish for it, nothing can change the past…or the very real danger he poses to her right now.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Sophia Morelli, oh how long I have waited for her story and I loved her character. She is the youngest Morelli we have had yet and is yet another contender for the black sheep of the family award. Sophia is a model and while she may come across as icy to an outsider; she has a heart of gold. Her perfect match is Damon Pierce, a stoic billionaire who seems to have it all together on the outside. While on the inside he is suffering and in need of a little brat in his life. We also get some great scenes with different Morelli siblings, as Sophia might feel like an outsider in her family but she has such special bonds with Lucian, Eva, and Lizzy.
  • Setting: This story is set in New York City, with the hustle and bustle of the world of billionaires and models. But by far my favourite setting was the Violent Delights club! This was introduced in an earlier book as one of Lucian Morelli’s business ventures, but now it is on full display. Each scene there was just so incredibly hot.
  • Pacing: This story was paced extremely well. It had an explosive opening with our lead characters meeting at the sex club and feeling that gravitational pull towards each other. The rest of the story moved at a good pace, and I am especially keen to keep reading. After that ending, I imagine most readers will be.
  • Romance: I love that we are finally getting a truly dominant and submissive pair in the Dangerous Press world. Sophia’s reluctance to fully submit to Perice, to give in to what she truly needs dominates her story arc. She cannot help but want to be self-sufficient so it was wonderful to see her letting go and open up to leaning on Pierce for help. Damon carries heavy burdens, self-doubt and grief. So, watching him open his heart to Sophia and then turning on that possessive streak, was just so damn hot. This book is riddled with great sexual tension and numerous kinky scenes both in and out of the sex club. As this first instalment came to a close it set up a relationship I need a HEA for, and I cannot wait to watch these characters fight for it.

Claim receives five out of five stars.

  • Characters: I love where January’s character development got to as she has undergone some staggering changes. I loved how she embraced a newfound independence and confidence. The men in her life just elevate her noble qualities and help to bring out what was in her all along. Things that her family had stifled in her, now get to shine. The best part was how she was not a pushover for the boys, that she fought for the future she wanted not just for herself, but how a future would look for all of them. With all this work put into the development of January’s character, I felt that the boys were a bit neglected. Bobby and Adriano saw virtually no development, while a little attention was paid to Elliot and Doc specifically working through the trust that comes with falling in love. I would have liked a bit more but I understand the limitation with the length and how many love interests there are. The little we know about the side characters is very interesting and I am excited to hopefully read a future book about January’s sister Margo, and/or the tale of the twin bodyguards, Archie and Bill.
  • Setting: Our story starts at Velvet House, which has transitioned from the much more icy unloving place that it was in the first instalment, to a home for January, her men, and their future family. I do not want to go into too much detail about where else you get to go as it does spoil the plot of the books. But know that the plot takes them away from Velvet House, but the little sojourner brings fodder for romantic scenes.
  • Pacing: This book was paced very well, some readers may find these on the shorter side but I do not mind the fast pace of this story, which the entire series moved at. I want to laud heavy praise on how this book started, it is an explosive scene and just epic. It was a true amalgamation of January’s character development and just how hot this series was.
  • Romance: On the topic of hot, yes of course this book is riddled with scorching hot sex scenes with different match-ups of January with Doc, Bobby, Elliott, and/or Adriano. I was grateful to see no regression in where the relationship was left at the end of the second instalment. Rather much of the conflict that threatens their relationship is external rather than internal. The plot sure threw our characters through a loop and really tested the boys’ romantic devotion to January and their brotherly bond with one another. There was still room in all of that for the emotional development of this relationship, specifically some of the boys’ struggle to say I love you and how it symbolized their greater struggle to trust in the special thing they had. The new elements introduced in the romance storyline are predictable (maybe even a bit cliche) but it is still a satisfactory conclusion to an entertaining series.

Book two in the SNOW WHITE trilogy. This is a scorching romance between a woman and four beautifully dangerous men in which she never has to choose.

WARNING: This book is intended for readers eighteen years old and over. It contains material that some readers could find disturbing. Enter at your own risk…

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: The character development in this instalment is top-notch! January is growing into her own and is really finding her voice. The first instalment is dominated by January viewing herself as unworthy and now she is taking her agency back. I loved how she pushed all the men of Velvet House, and I cannot wait to see her grow even more confident. For the men, January challenges them to show off more of their hidden sides. For Domenico Valente, this means his more emotional side. Doc puts up a hard shell, he attempts to push January around but soon enough she has him melting. Roberto Bassilotta was the most in tune with his emotions, compared to the other guys, but now January is pushing Bobby to show his fiercer side. We spend most of the book with Bobby and Doc, so I have gotten attached to their characters over the other two. Adriano Rossi spends much of this book absent, but I love seeing the most violent and bloodthirsty character show his big soft side. Elliot Morelli is the least interesting for me right now, but I cannot wait to see where the final book takes him.
  • Setting: The fear of this book taking place too far from the Velvet House. I did love that January with some newfound agency pushed the boys to take her on field trips, but of course, some of the best scenes happened close to home, the Velvet House. The end of this book teases an enjoyable setting to come and I cannot wait to see this crew take a much-needed vacation.
  • Pacing: This book opens in the middle of the action and never stops. The first instalment was very much a slow burn, and this instalment definitely heats up. I love the place we ended in, much less of a cliffhanger than the first novel.
  • Romance: I adored the evolution of each relationship January is having with the men of Velvet House. As I alluded to earlier much more progress was made with the Bobby and Doc relationships. For Bobby, his puppy love, basically a huge crush on JJ is becoming a genuine great love. But my favourite journey is Doc’s, whom January dubs Nico in this instalment. The walls around his heart that he put up after the death of his sister are starting to melt and not only is he growing a beautiful relationship with January, but he is more open about the importance of his relationships with the other men. The bromance is not something sexual, rather the Velvet House men are reckoning with just how important their friendships have been in their lives. I loved that January understands this and fights for it. Now don’t worry all you readers who picked this up for the more physical side of a why choose romance, this book delivers. I have to say it was worth the wait and I could not be happier with the place January’s character is at because it was not the boys pushing her, rather it was her begging them.

Silk Malice receives four out of five stars.

Thank you to Nikki Sloane and Valentine PR for the advance reader copy of The Frat Boy, the fourth story in the Nashville Neighbourhood series.

I binge-read the first three books in this series last December, so I jumped at the chance to review the conclusion of this fun and sexy series.

Colin Novak is the big man on campus. Huge—if the rumors are to be believed. Nearly every girl at Davidson University has had a ride on him . . . everyone, except me.

Which is fine. This frat boy may be irritatingly hot, all carved muscle with a deceptively wholesome smile, but that’s irrelevant. He’s a Sig.

When I catch his fraternity cheating at the Greek Week tournament, he denies it—causing our rivalry between houses to escalate. Colin and I may have started the mud fight, but it grows into an all-out war, and ends with us expelled from our houses.

Now I’m homeless and it’s all his fault.

So, while answering an ad for a leading role at an adult film company wasn’t part of my career path, the work comes with a lot of perks. Steady salary. Accommodations close to campus. A safe place to explore my fantasies.

Except when I show up for my audition, my partner is none other than my new archenemy—Colin. And our sexual chemistry is explosive.

We hate how attracted we are to each other, and I despise that I want every scene to be with him. Because the longer we live together, the more I see he’s not who I thought he was.

This frat boy was so easy to hate . . . but what if he’s even easier to love?

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: The protagonist is sorority girl Madison and I really loved so many elements of her character. She is an incredibly passionate character. As the story progresses her passions for so many things grow, from getting more in touch with her sensual side. Her passion was evident even in the small part of this book that was about the school we found out Madison was an accounting major. Her passion for numbers really comes in handy in some scenes that longtime fans of this series will love. Madison’s love interest is fraternity boy Collin. When we meet this frat boy he has been sleeping around and being a jerk to so many. He goes on a really interesting journey in this book. As he got to know Madison better he began to shift from the insensitive frat boy to a nice guy to even a supportive boyfriend.
  • Setting: We don’t actually spend much time at the university, instead we are in everyone’s favourite Nashville Neighbourhood. I loved all the cameos from the characters of the previous instalments. There is a particularly stellar scene at the end that felt like an ode to this series and a beautiful send-off.
  • Pacing: This story opened in such an exciting fashion! From the beginning, the premise is established so well, and you cannot help but keep reading. This story kicks off fast and never slows down. All I wanted to do was keep reading it, I may have even put aside prescient things to finish it.
  • Romance: This book is extremely sexy, hot, and every other adjective in this vein that you can think of. I loved how we got two concurrent stories, the love story of the key couple and their romance. But readers who love scenes will multiple partners will fawn over this story, if you are a fan of this series I have no doubt you are one of those readers. The Frat Boy has M/F/M, F/F/M, M/F/M/F and lots of voyeurism and exhibitionism. The standout is the physical part of Mads and Collin’s relationship, but the emotional throughline of the budding relationship is still there. One of my favourite scenes was them having a deep conversation late at night in bed. It was low-key super relatable to me, are my boyfriend and I the only people who have deep convos way too late at night when we can’t fall asleep? I just wish these moments of connection happened slightly earlier in the story. If you want a fun bingeable series full of taboo tropes pick up the Nashville Neighbourhood!

The Frat Boy receives four out of five stars.

I am a Sierra Simone review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews.

England is burning with Norman fires, and Tate—the youngest ever abbess of Far Hope Abbey—is determined to guard the abbey’s ancient secrets with her very life. Her life may be what it takes, however, for a Norman warlord known only as The Wolf is pillaging his way right to the abbey’s doors. But when The Wolf arrives, Tate finds not the brutal warrior she was expecting, but his even more brutal widow in his place, a cruel and beautiful woman who leads her dead husband’s men with a ferocity to rival that of her Viking ancestors. And after she sets eyes on Tate, it becomes clear that gold and silver aren’t the only things The Wolf wants to carry off into the night…

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Abbess Tate is in charge of Far Hope Abbey, she was put in charge recently as their numbers dwindled and she was the healthiest nun to lead the abbey. She is brave, headstrong, and loyal; going out of her way to protect Far Hope. This character really surprised me, meaning she was a lot more varied than expected. Do not be fooled by Tate’s pious label, she has some secrets that will shake up how you feel about her. So, Tate sacrifices herself to the clutches of the Wolf. All the characters in the story make the reader thinks we are meeting a man, instead, she is a ruthless widow. Such an intriguing character; one cannot but have empathy for this character and all the secrets she must keep.
  • Setting: We pick up with Tate and the Wolf as the Normans are invading England, the year is 1068 and we are just a few years away from the conclusion of the Norman conquest. This was such a unique setting! As a history degree holder, I am always a sucker for a historical setting. As this time period is nowhere near my specialty I find nothing to critique, so it was pure enjoyment for me and will be for many others. Sierra did such a good job of weaving in historical elements of the Norman conquest, even historical figures are small parts of this larger wlw love story. Fans of Sierra’s previous work will feel the Thornchapel vibes throughout this, and if you love Sierra’s other historical series such as Markham Hall.
  • Pacing: My small complaint with this story was the pacing. I found this short story lagged in spots. It felt on the longer side for a short story. But instead of this just flushing out the romance, I found I lost focus and was not encouraged to escape away into the story. I often read at a manic pace, this took me many days to read and it is not very long. If you like your short stories on the longer side you will really enjoy this.
  • Romance: I enjoyed the love story between Tate and Adelais, an enemies-to-lovers romance in a time period where largely no woman would have sought a coupling that fulfilled them. Tate and Adelais were finally getting the love and companionship they deserved. Plus this book is super hot, these characters have such great chemistry and not a single romantic scene disappoints. I love the most that they bonded over being morally grey, and how they had to deal with what was dealt to them in a world everchanging and riddled with upheaval and violence.

Villain I’d Like to Fuck receives four out of five stars.

I cannot even explain how excited I get whenever Fiona announces we are returning to the Voyeur world. It means so much to me and is one of my favourite contemporary romance worlds to inhabit.

When he said his vows, he told me how much he loved my determination and strength.

If I wanted it, I got it.

Except now all I want is to have his baby. And for the first time ever, no matter how much I want it, no amount of strength and determination can make it happen.

I jumped at the chance to review this. Who does not love the queen of smutty academia-core that is Sierra Simone? Plus faeries! I am a Sierra Simone review team member, but I remain honest and genuine in my reviews. “A grad student sets out to find a missing castle and is kidnapped for the pleasure of a fae queen instead…It’s that time of year, friends. The moon is full and Samhain approaches. Your invitation to the Shadow Market is here. Three days of magic, drama, seduction, and maybe just a dash of human sacrifice! Come through the portal and meet witches, demons, gorgons, mermaids, the fae, and even the odd human who’s gotten turned around and ended up somewhere they shouldn’t.” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: Our leads in this short story are Janneth and Morgana. Janneth is a grad student, studying to be an archaeologist. She has this air of unhappiness. It is very clear she is a very sexual person but is struggling to connect with people in her life. That is until she enters the Fae realm. She meets Morgana, the Queen of the Court of the Stags. She is of course beautiful as most Fae are. She is definitely a very morally grey character, with some complicated motivations. I admired that Sierra depicted this ruler struggling between being selfless for her kingdom or selfish for herself. In a shorter story, Sierra builds compelling side characters that add to the story. Setting: The setting is lush with depictions of the Fae world. Sierra is such the perfect choice to take this on, as she imbued the whimsy of her Thornchapel setting into the faerie realm. The only thing is that sometimes the world-building elements do not really have much time to develop as this is a shorter story. Pacing: In terms of pacing I know that these were intended to be short books, I just wish it was a little longer to flush out the world and romance more. Romance: This book is hot hot hot and it is super queer. This is yet again more evidence that Sierra can write any iteration of couples/groups. Sierra uses the side characters to her advantage, Idalia and Morven bring about one of the hottest scenes in the book. I did feel as if I could not buy into this love, it was slightly too insta-love. It felt more like lust than love. It needed more time to grow. The Fae Queen’s Captive receives three out of five stars.
