This is one of my most anticipated releases of the year. I waited many months for Serafina van Doren’s story. From the minute she stepped on the page, I knew her story would captivate. I am a member of the Dangerous Press review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true. “People like to say the devil made them do it… And they would be right. I can bend anyone to my will. After all, I am the devil of Pembroke Prep.Only one person dares defy me. The one person I’ve ever wanted to be an angel for. But she despises me almost as much as I crave her. Serafina Van Doren is the one temptation I can’t indulge, not with the secrets that I keep. But with the clock running out maybe it’s time to tempt her to the dark side. Everyone loves to dance with the devil at least once, right?” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: This is Serafina and Rhys’ love story. Serafina van Doren has been a staple of this series from book one and I was super excited to finally get into her head. Becker Gray did a great job depicting Serafina’s dichotomies, she may come from an incredibly wealthy family but she is still African American. I loved Sera, how she had all the emotions mostly anger and how she needed an outlet to expend it. A lot of us suffer from that, the need to stuff down everything we are feeling. Many readers will relate to Serafina. Rhys completely surprised me. He put himself through so much internal strife. One of my favourite parts of the book was watching Rhys’s journey of not just letting Sera in more, but also his fellow Hellfire club members. Setting: This story is set at the Pembrooke boarding school. I have adored this setting throughout the story, this series is boasted one of my favourite high school settings yet. I love sneaking into dorms, hooking up in the library, and lusting away in class. The best part of the setting has been the ensemble cast. I loved every scene where we got to hang with the characters of Wicked Idol, Callous Prince, Brutal Blueblood and Ruined Sinner. Pacing: This story was the perfect length. Not too short or too long. I really enjoyed the way the plot elements were laid out. The story progressed at a really good clip. I was hooked from quite early on, and the second half I just devoured in one night. Romance: This was a romance I have been dying to read from the minute these characters stepped on the page in Wicked Idol. I knew it would be hot and deliver every wish I could possibly want to be fulfilled. I loved how Becker Gray incorporated Rhys and Sera’s backstory into this tale. The way they spent most of high school pining over each other while pestering each other. This book took a darker, much more serious turn and I really liked what it did to their relationship. It really tested them early on and I like how the rest of the story played out. Sweet Devil receives five out of five stars. I am a huge fan of The Hellfire Club series! So I was super excited to finally get my hands on Aurora’s story. I am a member of the Dangerous Press review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true. Check out the Goodreads synopsis… “It’s no secret that Aurora Lincoln-Ward hates Phineas Yates, but what most people don’t know is the reason. Last summer, Phineas broke Aurora’s heart in the worst way, and she promised herself then and there that she would never fall prey to the sinner of Pembroke Prep again. But now sin is in the air, and the Hellfire Club’s number one sinner has his sights set on her…” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: Aurora Lincoln-Ward is one of my fave protagonists in this series so far! If you have been reading the other stories you would recognize Aurora as Lennox’s twin sister. She is a Liechtensteiner princess. What I loved about Aurora is that her journey in this book was more than a romance. Ruined Sinner is about finding your own agency in your life. Aurora is navigating an overbearing mother, family expectations, imposed proposal, fake relationship, and recovering from trauma. Phineas Yates has had a crush on Aurora from the moment she walked down the halls of Pembroke. I love the contradictions Phin’s character presented. He had such a fuck boy reputation, but as the story progressed his true nature came across. I loved how he was loyal, caring, and incredibly smart. Setting: The majority of the story is set at the Pembroke, the boarding school the Hellfire club dominates. I love having the book set at the school. The school setting brings with it sneaking into each other’s dorms and fooling around during class. I absolutely adore this setting. Being set at the Pembroke we do get a lot of scenes with their friends. Lennox really comes across as this overly protective brother and it was wonderful to get to read more about his sibling dynamic with Aurora. Sera and Rhys do pop up as well and they do seem to be the only two left so I am very excited to see what a future book holds for them. Pacing: I engulfed this story. The pacing was spot on. There was a perfect mix of plot and sexy scenes. Not too much or too little either. Honestly, these books are such fun, total escapist, easy reads. Romance: This story is Becker Gray’s take on the fake relationship trope. I loved how they executed it. Phin taking charge and whisking in to “save” Aurora. When really he has just been pining over her for so long and lost his best shot. Now that he has been granted another one, he will not let it go to waste. The best part of the fake relationship trope is when it bleeds into a real one. It was definitely the hot hookups and steaming sexual tension that led Aurora and Phin down that path. Another A+ instalment in this sexy, steamy high school series. Ruined Sinner receives five out of five stars. This story releases on May 25th! I am so pumped for the next Hellfire Club story from Becker Gray. This is how you do a new adult high school romance series, each installment has pushed the boundaries and broken the barriers of what I expected from books about high schoolers. I am a member of the Dangerous Press review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true. Check out the Goodreads synopsis… “They call him the ice king. Owen Montgomery is arrogant and unfeeling–with cold, haughty manners and a British accent sharper than any knife. I’ve been secretly in love with him for years, knowing there’s no way he could ever notice me, the scholarship girl. The poor girl. Until that night in Ibiza…until that night we taste each other’s kiss for the first time, and I learn what hot hungers the ice king keeps hidden from public view. It’s also the night when I discover that after three years of sharing classes and even friends, Owen still has no idea who I am. None at all. Pride stung, I vow to focus only on myself and my future in publishing. But little do I know that I’ve awakened an obsession in Owen that will soon outgrow the halls of Pembroke Prep and spill over into the real world. Owen wants me, and he’ll stop at nothing to have me. And soon I find myself with an impossible choice. Do I pick the future I always wanted for myself? Or do I choose the blueblood whose kisses are as brutal as his love?” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: Tanith is a bookworm, nerdy, scholarship student. She dreams of being a journalist, which she is well on her way to achieving these goals as she is wicked smart. Owen has always been a facet of her life at the Pembrooke as she has been crushing hard. Surprisingly she is buddies with Serena van Doren, the queen bee of the gals group. The shy Tanith is embraced by her louder-than-life friends. In contrast, Owen is a rich boy and a member of the Hellfire club. I really connected with Tanith’s character and I really love when you can see yourself in the protagonist. Setting: The story was not set that much at the Pembrooke and I really missed it. We get an opening in Ibiza and Christmas season in New York which was nice. But I did miss the school aspect of this story. At least we got lots of time with the other characters. It was cute to see the couples from Wicked Idol and Callous Prince, struggle to keep their hands to themselves. Now I cannot wait to see the stories of Sera & Rhys, and Aurora & Phin. Pacing: The pacing was a wee bit off, as I felt like almost a whole chunk in the middle was gone and that the ending was rushed. Romance: The romance started in different spots for each character as Tanith had a crush and Owen was unaware of her existence. Owen’s drive towards Tanith is competitive and sexual. What a combo! Owen is utterly fascinated by her and really wants to hook up with her. She keeps him at bay for a bit but soon enough these two start fucking like gangbusters. Just like other tales of the Hellfire Club, this book is not for the faint of heart. This story is real kinky with some voyeurism, exhibitionism, rough sex and anal. So if none of that ain’t for you then, this story ain’t for you. The sexual intensity was there but I felt like I was missing the emotional aspect that made me utterly adore the previous stories. This is one of my most anticipated books of the year from Dangerous Press. Wicked Idol was my fave book that Dangerous Press put out last year so I am over the moon to get to review its sequel. I am not usually a fan of these high school settings for books but Becker Gray does it right! This series is perfect for fans of L.J. Shen’s All Saints High for example. High school done in a way that is sultry, secretive, and steamy. I am a member of the Dangerous Press’ Review Team, this does not affect the honesty and integrity of my review. Check out the Goodreads synopsis… “He’s arrogant.Intolerable.Cruel. From the moment we exchanged our first glance, Lennox Lincoln-Ward has been out to destroy me. So I keep my head down at Pembroke Prep, and I stay out of the Hellfire Club’s way. Even so, Lennox finds me, seeks me out until he pins me in his beautiful, withering gaze—the same gaze that sends a chill down my spine and an undeniable tingle to other places. Lennox is royalty with a dark past. One that I intend to investigate. I’ll find his secrets and expose every lie that rolls off his tongue. But getting close to Lennox has particular dangers—including his mouth, his golden eyes, and the brutally soft touch of his fingers. I intend to unravel him, but in the end, I may be the one who comes apart, broken in the hands of a callous prince.” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: Sloane and Lennox are the main characters of the second story in the Hellfire Club. Sloane is the daughter of an Interpol chief and has always gone to boarding school. She is pretty innocent despite her spy tendencies. While Lennox is Liechtenstein royalty, with his father in jail for participating in a Ponzi scheme. And it was Sloane’s father who arrested him. Lennox blames Sloane and wants to make her life a living hell. Yet he remains quite fascinated by her. Lennox is a member of the Hellfire club and is a total classic bad boy. Setting: The story is primarily set at the boarding school. We get a few fancy settings like a gala and some time in New York City. Pacing: The story is paced really well especially as Becker Gray had to ensure that we as readers bought into the romance. This story had me for a ride and I did not want to get off. I spent a whole morning in bed way too late because I did not want to stop reading it. Romance: Lennox had badgered Sloane for years. He saw her as his, his to toy with, and his to tease. Rhys another member of the Hellfire club decides to make Lennox jealous by appearing to take an interest in Sloane. Rhys even goes as far as to kiss her in public, angering Lennox. All of this attention from Rhys and Lennox makes Sloane feel like she has never had before, someone desired. All of this leads to quite the steamy scene in a school janitorial closet. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and I did very much enjoy how much the two of them loved kissing. It was so rewarding to watch both of them realize that their infatuations with each other were really them falling in love. Another killer romance from Becker Gray and the Hellfire Club series. I cannot wait to see whose story we get next, hoping for Rhys and Seraphina. Callous Prince receives five out of five stars. Becker Gray’s Wicked Idol ARC Review https://clarynathanwill.com/reviews/becker-grays-wicked-idol-arc-review/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=becker-grays-wicked-idol-arc-review https://clarynathanwill.com/reviews/becker-grays-wicked-idol-arc-review/#respond Fri, 06 Nov 2020 23:52:28 +0000 http://clarynathanwill.com/?p=2357 Thank you to Serena and the team at Dangerous Press for the advance reader copy of Wicked Idol, releasing on November 17th! This is my second release working with the Dangerous Press team and it is so wonderful being a member of this team. I love the community of erotica book-loving ladies that Serena has introduced me to. I am a member of the Dangerous Press’ Review Team, this does not affect the honesty and integrity of my review. Check out the Goodreads synopsis… “The new girl doesn’t belong here.So why can’t I stop thinking about her? The daughter of the headmaster wants to ruin my school year before it’s even begun. Iris Briggs gets under my skin. With her demure skirts and braided hair, she flits around the periphery until she runs right into me, hot coffee soaking me as she looks up with wide, innocent eyes. We start off scalding. In the library, we reach lava levels. And then in the city? She burns me to the ground. I’m Keaton Constantine. My duty is to my family. At least, it was until I started unbraiding the good girl and realizing there’s more to life than duty.” Check out my more detailed thoughts below… Characters: Iris and Keaton are the main characters of this story. Iris is the new girl at the school and is coming in as the new headmaster’s daughter. She is an extremely dedicated student but has had to struggle between pleasing her father and chasing her dreams. Keaton can relate to Iris’ struggle with pleasing your family. He is faking so much of his life, including a relationship to please his mother the matriarch of the Constantine family. Keaton is your classic male protagonist who portrays himself as the bad boy, king of the school. Once he opens up to Iris the reader is able to see just how much of a sweet, romantic, creative type he actually is. Setting: The story is set in the New England area of the United States specifically at a boarding school. Despite the setting being in a high school, the maturity level would not be for just anyone. It is still most definitely an erotica romance, full within the mandate of what Dangerous Press publishes. I actually loved that this was set in high school because yeah some kids do get frisky in the library so why not write about it. It reminded me of L.J. Shen’s All Saints High books, but somehow even better! Pacing: The story was paced well. I got up early one morning and read the entire book before I started my day. It was such a great binge, all the books coming out of Dangerous Press are. No part of the book felt rushed, just perfect. Romance: The new girl and the bad boy, the headmaster’s daughter, the bully with a heart of gold lots of tropes are at play in this romance. All of them are so well executed and blended together. Not to mention that these two had electric chemistry. Some of the hottest scenes were not even when they had sex but two scenes stick with me days later including one in the library and one in the woods. Iris and Keaton obviously had many obstacles in their way, and despite a few ups and downs, they are able to fall in love with each other in such a beautiful way. Congrats to Becker Grey they wrote a story that is equal parts romantic and erotic, combining the best parts of each into a perfect blend. Wicked Idol receives five out of five stars.
