Here are my more detailed thoughts…

• Characters: Edward and Charlotte were the main characters. Charlotte is your headstrong yet innocent-esque protagonist. She is so multi-dimensional and this makes her relatable to almost every reader as she will bring something to the table that is relatable for you. Edward is the Prince, almost King and is portrayed as a man really torn about ascending the throne. This portrayal allows the reader to come to understand the loss of freedom in Edward’s life and what makes him the way he is.
• Setting: The story, for the most part, unfolds in the Valmont Manor, which is the royal family’s summer home. The Kingdom is called Norland, obviously, a made-up place, but it reads like contemporary not like a made up fantasy world.
• Romance: The way in which Edward and Charlotte fell in love was definitely a slow burn style, which made it so rewarding when they began to better understand their feelings. Charlotte spends the majority of the novel interested in another man, but it is through asking Edward for advice and help that she begins to notice how she is comfortable with Edward and not with the man she is striving to be with.
