Giana Darling’s Asking for Trouble ARC Review

Thank you to Giana Darling and her team for the advance reader copy of Asking for Trouble, a standalone shorter novel in The Fallen Men series.

Damn, Ms. Darling never misses! This book was impeccable and I am reminded time and time again why I love Entrance and that when we return to it, just how much I never ever want to leave it.

An MC romance about a girl hiding from her past and the biker who becomes her unlikely saviour…

When four thugs show up at Evergreen Gas Station with cocked shotguns and masked faces, it could have ended in the worst night of my life.

Instead, a gorgeous mystery man in leather, silver, and too many tattoos strolls into the middle of the robbery and becomes my unlikely saviour with a tarnished halo.

Only, what seemed like a random hold-up at first turns into something far more complicated and Aaron Clare isn’t the type of man to leave a woman in distress. Despite my vow not get into trouble again, I find myself following the man dubbed ‘Boner’ into a night of danger and delicious debauchery with long-reaching consequences.

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: I’ve been so excited for Aaron “Boner” Claire’s story, after the build-up of so many Fallen Men installments. Being in his head and more importantly in his heart really delivered. He is so incredibly loyal and caring. He loves big and deep like many of the other Fallen Men MC members. Blue was such a good counterpart for him as she was all those things too. From the minute she was introduced it was hard not to fall for her as fast as Boner did and to want nothing but to help her. The best part of each one of these books is the cameos from past characters, I love them all so much that every glimpse of the fallen and their old ladies was a gem of a moment. I really want Curtains book to come soon, I want to read his second chance at love, but I am equally excited to see what Giana does with characters like Cleo and Kodiak.
  • Setting: I alluded to this early but I love Entrance! I’ve probably addressed my bias in past Giana Darling reviews because I am a Vancouver girlie who loves books set close to me. Entrance feels special, with the small-town vibes and being close to the city. The PNW vibes are immaculate. The stakes of the turf war going on in Entrance feel really ratcheted up and I cannot wait to see the shakeups the town might go through in the next book.
  • Pacing: At only 300 pages-ish this is much shorter than Giana tends to write, the last book Caution to the Wind was over 600 pages. I felt like I could have been reading about Boner, Blue, and all my favourite characters for much longer only because I love them not because this was rushed. Giana really proved she could tell any Fallen Men story no matter the length. I’ve seen some saying it is a great place to start if you find the series intimidating to jump into, of course, I’d recommend going right to the beginning for the best experience and trust me the later books in this series have all been top tier.
  • Romance: I saw someone else refer to this as “Insta love done well and properly” and I could not agree more! Boner has this love-at-first-sight moment and quite quickly is ready to burn down the whole world for Blue. I loved how fast and hard he fell, and the way all his friends could be like I told you so about the power of love. Boner truly just kept showing up, with almost relentlessness no matter what Blue told him about her not wanting to threaten the Fallen. He proved so eloquently that Blue deserved this great kind of love and this new family. Maybe the best relationships were the new friendships Blue formed with the other girls and of course, reading about Boner’s friendships with Curtains and the other guys.
  • Spice: With such the gravity of love feeling bone-deep the spice was on another level too! Firstly the man’s nickname doesn’t lie and he’s got some hardware to go with it (iykyk). This book may be on the shorter side for Giana but it doesn’t skimp on the spice, there is plenty to enjoy.

Asking for Trouble is 5/5 stars
