Lauren Blakely’s One Time Only ARC Review

Thank you to Lauren Blakely and the team at Candi Kane PR for the advance reader copy of One Time Only, releasing on November 18th.

I am a member of Lauren’s review team, but I stand by my reviews remaining honest and true.

I was so glad after A Guy Walks Into My Bar, that Lauren has decided to continue writing M/M romance. It is such a joy to be on her review team as she always delivers. I am so happy she is writing these sexy Sin city romances right now.

A fiery, passionate MM romance novel from #1 New York Times Bestselling author Lauren Blakely…

Ever hear the story about the bodyguard who falls for the rock star?
Yeah, it never ends well.
Each day I remind myself that it’s my job to protect Stone. And nowhere in the job description does it say I should lust after the charismatic, charming man.
Especially since we’re opposites.
But every night I spend with him the dangerous, off-limits attraction grows more intense.
Until one night in a limo when we combust.
One time only will have to be enough. One scorching, forbidden night.
Because the mistakes from the past are chasing me. And if I give in again, I’ll lose everything.
But sometimes you grab hold of the desire. And other times, the desire takes hold of you. No matter the cost.”

Check out my more detailed thoughts below…

  • Characters: Stone and Jackson are the main characters of this steamy rockstar-bodyguard romance. Stone is a rockstar, someone you would already be acquainted with if you have read her wonderful The Extravagant series. Jackson is Stone’s bodyguard and he has gone through it the poor boy. Jackson is the more stoic one of the pair and for good reason. I do not want to go into much detail about their backstories because the way in which Lauren reveals different details were so well done I do not want to ruin it for you.
  • Pacing: The beauty of Lauren’s pacing in this story is in how she reveals aspects of the characters’ backgrounds and how she allows for Stone and Jackson to give in to their feelings for each other.
  • Setting: The setting does shift during this story because Stone does play all over the United States. The most important setting in the story was Las Vegas, where Stone does a residency. It is the most significant setting as it is key to Stone and Jackson’s relationship.
  • Romance: For those of you who do not know this is only Lauren’s second time writing an M/M romance and somehow she is already phenomenal at it. Lauren was able to balance quite effectively having really hot sexual chemistry with an enormity of romantic feelings. Elements of Jackson’s character made him so cautious about falling in love again and Stone had never been in love so it was so wonderful to see them fall head over heels for each other. It was also so heartwarming to see those around them cheer them on and then some. All the side characters were such awesome cheerleaders for this relationship and that energy definitely bled into the reader as well.

One Time Only receives five out of five stars.
